i have been employed as a sports officiator at the YMCA since january, i worked on average 8 - 10 hours a week on the weekends up until now. i never got any paychecks until may. they kept telling me to fill out information every month to get paid. i got paid finally in may but it was only for like 25 hours. apparently they can't find some of my time sheets. and they won't tell me what days i was paid for. i didn't keep a record of which days exactly i worked since january, but i know i haven't been getting paid for them. my manager says theres nothing they can do

Call the wage and hour board of the Labor Department. They will get you your money. The glitch is your not having records. Perhaps you could reconstruct your hours by checking which games you officiated. In either case, call the wage and hour board. They don't take kindly to people being screwed out of wages.

I guess you do know to keep track of your hours now, right? Also don't let so much time lapse before demanding to be paid.

The Fair Wage and Hour Division of your State's Atty General's office handles cases like this all the time. Usually, just getting a phone call from an Assistant AG is enough to get employers to cough up.

You should contact your state's labor board, but I fear you are going to have a tough time of it if you don't have any records of when you worked. Without proof it is your word against theirs, but it seems like you aren't even sure what you are owed only that it should be more. You should see if there are some old schedules around of the games you were supposed to officiate.

check a small claims lawyer. parents or people enrolled in the y who saw you. or you could do some bad things on the job and make it appear as though the ones in charge are to blame. you could start leaving early on days when they really need you(get acute sickness) food poisoning, stomache aches, seious migraine, family emergency anything to upset the flow of operations at crucial times is getting back since it doesn't appear that your retro cash will ever flow your way again. good luck don't go postal.

First off you have just learnt a valuable lesson ins keeping records.

2nd - Contact your states employment commission or what ever it is called.

As I understand the law - they have to pay you in a timely manner. Our state has very strict laws and automatic fines for employers that fail to do so. And we are a "red" state.

If you have records of the hours you worked, you have a lawsuit. Most states impose a penalty equal to the wage for wage/hour violations. So sue them.

Contact your local labor board you can usually do it online and there is a form you can fill out for back wages and then it tells you the process and proceedures...It isn't too hard and they do all the investigating...
