I have a couple of cracks going down my laptop screen with black splotches next to it. How do I go about repairing this problem?

look for a screen to match your model laptop on ebay. you'll need to replace the whole screen if there are cracks in it. the black stuff along the cracks is liquid crystal oozing out.

Sorry BozzPaw, but Chris DeMarco is correct.

When a an LCD (Liquid Crystals Display) panel is cracked it requires replacing. The black splotches are damaged areas of the Liquid Crystals not just dead pixels. If the laptop is in warranty, this voids the warranty unless you bought the damage option on an extended warranty.

As Chris stated, try to find an LCD monitor (go for a reconditioned or good used one). A new replacement could cost as almost as much as a new laptop.

If you are going to attempt to replace it yourself, be extremely careful you do not damage the ribbon connection cables.

Good Luck

Unless it's a really good laptop, you are probably better off to replace it. What brand and model is it, I have a few used ones.

there is no known solution to fix the dead pixels in an LCD monitor. try to replace the monitor.
