He is not overrated to me because I never had him rated that high. Andrew Jones is a below average to average hitter, at best, with a lot of power. He is a very good defensive outfielder and deserves credit for that but you certainly can't put him in the same category as some of the elite players in MLB today.

I have to admit that when I first saw the question, I agreed with it, but after looking at his stats, I actually disagree. While his batting average is nothing to brag about, his power numbers are much better than I thought they were. His 51 HR season in 2005 might have been the quietest 50 HR season on record. Add in his doubles and triples and his slugging percentage is pretty nice. All of that said, I don't think I would want him at the plate in the bottom of the ninth needing a big hit due to his poor average.
One area where I think he is a little overrated is his fielding. We have all seen that he is able to make outstanding plays, but his attitude and lazy play keeps him from reaching his full potential. Not many guys get yanked while in the field, but Andruw earned that privilege a few seasons ago.
This season is not looking good, but that doesn't make him overrated. It's just a bad season. No one is calling Jason Bay overrated and he is having a worse season than Andruw.

I don't know about Andrew Jones is but Andruw Jones may be a bit overrated, but not much. He's never been a high average guy but he still he has tremendous power and is one of the most talented defensive center fielders in baseball, he's just having an off year.

oh my god
its called an "off year"
EVERYONE HAS THEM
first off, hes the best defensive centerfielder, hell the best defensive outfielder in the game (Torii Hinter s 2nd)
and secondly, this year hes ahving a bad season at the plate. but his career numbers show what a threat he is:
hes averaging 30 HR and 100+ RBIs every season in his 10 full years in the league. in 2004 and 2005 he had back-to-back 40+ HR seasons and 130 RBIs each year. an injury shortened 2006 deff took its toll on him and this year hes been going a bit downhill, but to call him overrated is just a crime. no one is calling him a threat this season thats for sure, but he is traditionally always a threat at the palte

Why does everybody hate Andruw Jones now just because is average is low. I mean his pwer numbers are good and he has 66 rbi. Isn't that pretty decent. People these days are so judgemental. Its just not right.

Nobody ever says that. When he is hot he IS a threat. He is a streaky slugger.
I think he is fairly rated based on the total package (offense and defense).

You have to include his defensive ability when rating.

Sorry, he's not overrated, simply because most baseball people gave up on him a Long time ago. He isnt overrated because he isnt rated anymore.
