Assuming that you just reloaded your computer and installed windows XP on it, Microsoft Word and such comes in a software package separate from the operating system, it is not automatically installed when you install the operating system. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are part of the Microsoft Office software package. Check you disks to see if you have a CD copy of Microsoft Office and install them to have access to them.
Now, if you did not just reload the operating system, and you previously had Office installed on your machine and you had created desktop shortcuts to them, perhaps they got deleted by accident or cleaned if someone did the desktop clean up program that cycles every 60 days when you were not the one using the computer it might have deleted them as well. To see if the programs are still on your computer, goto your start button, look at all programs, see if there are any entries for either Microsoft Office or the individual programs listed there.
Another avenue would be to goto the start button, click on search, select Files and Folders, type in Word, Powerpnt, or Excel, press the search button. If in the results window it finds the program you can right click the program and send a shortcut to the desktop for it.

The first place you can look is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11. All the executables are housed in here, all you would need to do is make a shortcut to them on your desktop. If you cant find this folder, do a search in Program Files for either *.exe, Winword.exe, Excel.exe, and Powerpnt.exe. You can access Search by going to Start --> Search. If you still cant find them, then you simply have to re-install the application.

Try to re-boot your computer... if that isnt working go to my computer, then control panel, and then Add or Remove Programs, and then look for Microsoft Office. If it is not listed under that list then you will need to buy Office from somewhere and re-install it! Good Luck!!
