The same person who told me to crunch up the fish flakes also said that feeding algae pellets to my pleco would gunk up my 10 gallon tank. Is that true? I mean they obviously didn't know what crunching up the flakes would do.

Nope, algae wafers fed correctly will not gunk up the tank. Feed only a few to your algae eater. If it's small one a day will probably be enough. I would also suggest feeding it right after you turn off the lights, that when your algae eater will be most active and most ready to eat.

If you overfeed anything it will "gunk" up your tank. If the Algae eater does not eat the wafer and 24hours has past take it out of you tank. Its all ready begun breaking down and may cause ammonia to spike up a bit. Ammonia which you probably know, is toxic to fish. Furthermorem, the higher pH value the water is the more toxic ammonia becomes. Flakes are a waste if your fish don't eat it right away. It loses almost all of its nutritional value a minute after it touches water. I recommend small floating/sinking pellets like "New life Spectrum" fish foods. The offer pellets that are small enough for tetras to eat.

No, that's not true, you just have to watch how much you feed them
one pleco one wafer a day every 2-3 days

This shows exactly how bad informed these employees are

Hope that helps

adding alot of food will do that to any tank, the thing to remember is the amount

1 algae waffer will not, but lets say 7for example would.

The pleco will eat 1 wafer, but if it doesnt remove the waffer after a few hours. that way it wont have the time to get the water coludy and messy.

I feed mine pellets and algae discs unless you way over feed them (I know you don't). I don't see any thing wrong with what your doing. Fish gotta eat.
