It wasn't a real ship. Some of the shots were done by rebuilding a few sets. The sinking shots were done with a scale model and computer work.

The other ship is mentioned in the movie is "The Carpathia" this is the ship that rescues whoever was still alive.
Rose says to the guy who "built" the titanic, that the Mauretania" is bigger that the titanic, and he assures she is right; but the titanic is more luxurious.
James Cameron build a replica of some parts of the titanic., He build it on Rosarito, Mexico and is still over there as a museum. All the other ships are just mentioned, everything was a stage, not a real ship. you can see how the make the movie at the special futures in the DVD.

my mom helped produce this (she is a nautical producer...she provides ships for movies like sphere and stuff)...no ships were used...a model was made...digital effects and half of a ship....the engine room was the jeremiah o' brien's engine room replicated millions of times digitally and yea thats all i know
