There is a film from 1919 called the Inferno.
A film from the early 1900's could not be narrated. Sound in film, "Talkies", didn't happen until the late 1920's. The first "talkie" was The Jazz Singer in 1927.

The film maybe the original 1919 film that was updated in later years. This was done with Metropolis, a new score was added in 2002.
