They used to be able to and did so quite often.
Then there was a supreme court ruling on the subject that says no.

There is no death penalty for rape in any State that I know of. But, If in the commission of the rape the victim is killed then I believe that it becomes a capital crime and a defendant can be subject to execution in some States.Don't use a television program as being a legal or reality check for the real world.

In Florida if the victim is under 12 you can be sent to prison for life. That's a worse sentence than death.

Not here in the United States, in other countries perhaps in China or Russia where they do get executed, for this heinous crime, but I'm not sure where.

Rape was a capital crime years ago, but not now. I should be a capital crime....some things are worse than death and rape is one of them.

No, you can only be executed for premeditated murder. There are those who say that should change. But for now, that's the law.

just for rape? i dont think it is a capital crime yet. however states are cracking down on rape alot more and when convicted u go to jail for life.

The death sentence is usually reserved for murder. It would have to be a serial rapist, but even then, it might be unlikely.
