Very good question - and of interest to me as a Cards fan.

LaRussa recently called out Rolen again on this injury situation, so I can't fathom there is a great relationship there.

Rolen is still a defensive stalwart, but his offensive production has waned - whether it be the injury or just a normal decline. I think this would impact the value the Cards would get back.

Since the Cards farm system is still in the process of turning the corner they have nobody ready to play 3rd. I also do not think the Cards are that far away in 08 as they will get a healthy Carpenter and Mulder.

So my answer is no, he will not be traded. If he is, it would be for prospects, including a 3b.

I think the Cards are more likely only to trade minor parts and not Rolen or Izzy. For example, I could see them moving Taguchi, Percival, Springer - guys they can trade to a contender for a fringe prospect.

Rolen has not been healthy the past few years and his level of play has been down because of that. It is a catch 22 for the Cardinals because they would not get much for Rolen until he was able to prove he was healthy. On the other hand, if he was health and playing to his capabilities the Cardinals would not want to trade him. If I were the Cardinals I would hold on to Rolen and hope for the best.
