It is way to early tp say but a lot of released intelligence reports that Al Quaeda is getting stronger... the Bush administration, at present, will not admit that most violence in Iraq is from insurgents while American military leaders have said as much. The insurgents have moved from Anbar Province but have led violent excursions into other areas that they have previously ignored... but it looks like violence has decreased slightly overall... but only slightly.
At this stage of this war I don't think there is a realistic victorious scenario for America or the insurgents... Al Quaeda has maybe benefitted more than anyone considering that their recruitment and training has increased greatly as a result of us in Iraq... but I wouldn't call that a sweeping victory for Al Quaeda.
We will eventually declare some sort of success or victory for PR purposes when we leave Iraq in mass but the only people that can answer your question are the Iraqi people. Considering their lack of electricity (for a large segment of their population), lack of paying jobs (unemployment is at 41%) and a government that seems corrupt and lazy then I can't call this a victory.... but who knows what will happen in 3-5 more years, I just don't want our troops to be there for that long. We should have been able to solve those basic needs of the Iraqi people in the time we have been there... I guess you can say that we can be there forever as long as we "win" (whatever that means) but we will drive ourselves into financial ruin, seriously damage our military's capabilities, and lose some more American lives.

One thing most folks never see is what is truly happening in Iraq. The insurgents come into a provice and try to set Sharia type laws on those folks. People have been getting upset at the insurgents and are now helping the US forces to drive them out.
Remember Iraq is about the size of California, that's one rather large chunk of land to cover. There are places in Iraq that are mostly quiet and some locations that have a major insurgent problem. If the surrounding countries close their borders and actually try and help instead of letting more terrorists into Iraq our job would be alot easier.
Some folks just love a war but they forget when you actually fight one, people die. Before the war started, our main stream media said the US would get over 30,000 military people killed. Last I looked, we have only lost less than 4,000 troops out of the 1.5 million that have served in Iraq. These folks wanted a Vietnam at the get go. Take a look back before the war started and you can see it as plain as day.
Get the silly politicians out of trying to dictate national security policy, and let the military do the job they were assigned to do.

This is a question/statement/opinion we heard constantly in the late 60's and early 70's as Johnson dumped more and more troops into the slaughtering crime against humanity called the Vietnam War where almost 60,000 soldiers died and a couple of million Vietnamese were carpet bombed into oblivion.
No doubt you can keep pumping more and more troops into Bush's ILLEGAL war of choice that was/is based upon a pack of vile lies that has resulted in the slaughter of over 400,000 innocent Iraqis, and make some limited progress but it is ultimately FUTILE for like in Vietnam THERE IS A CIVIL WAR GOING ON (that was triggered by Bush's war) .
The interim report issued this week states clearly that most of the objectives set HAVE NOT BEEN MET.Everyone is talking about Anbar Province but so what,US troops have previously pacified other qareas only to see them blow up again.Violence in Anwar province is down because of the huge concentration of troops BUT NOT ELSEWHERE IN IRAQ ESPECIALLY IN THE CAPITAL .
Like in Vietnam, just a small minimum progress towards the goals set will probably be made in the September review allowing Bush like Johnson an Nixon before him to continue this moral abomination in IRaq which has been condemned by all mainstream Christian Churches (including Bush's own Methodist Church as an ANTI-CHRISTIAN moral obscenity !!!!!!
Yes America, tell us what good little Christians you are.
THERE WILL BE,THERE CANNOT BE ANY VICTORY IN IRAQ AS THERE WAS NONE IN VIETNAM !!!!!!!
Because Americans refuse to acknowledge, even be aware of and responsible / accountable for their atrocities in the Middle East in the past 100 tears, they cannot even understand the across the board hatred that the majority of Arab/Muslims have towards Americans and America.
Suffice it to say, that if any country perpetrated the atrocities against America that America has perpetrated against them, the US would simply use it's awesome military to carpet bomb that country into oblivion.
Without such military power, the people's of the Middle East are seeking justice for the atrocities committed against them just as Americans are seeking justice for 9/11 but because most live in highly repressive US supported DICTATORSHIPS ,they have had wrongly turn to terrorist organizations for "justice".

I have always felt that if the insurgents were smart that they would settle down, stop the bombings, stop the killings, etc. until the occupiers leave, and then really go for it. I don't think that we will go back...no matter what.

Until we determine what "victory" is, nobody will be able to answer your question. NOBODY KNOWS WHY WE'RE STILL IN IRAQ.
