That's pretty much all they are. It's kind of like homemade Funyuns. You know, the onion-flavored ring-shaped junk food thing by Frito-Lay? You basically take onion ring batter, mix onion powder into it, form it into rings, and make thin donuts in a fryer.

Um, I've never been served them that way, but I have ordered onion rings, taken out the onions and just consumed the breading because I like it so much. (Okay, I haven't actually done that since I was about 8, but still.) Perhaps the little rings were the onions themselves, but it sounds as though you have a reason to complain.

Yes, I have! They were like fried rings of nothing but onion flavored dough. Weird, to say the least! My 11 year old son loved them, because he hates biting into a crunchy onion, but that's what makes an onion ring so good!
Great......now I'm craving Onion rings!

You got rolled. You should have sent them back.
Although when I was a kid in my Moms restaurant I would take the onion out of the fried batter and just eat that.

haha i'm totally with you on that one!!! i had them once and i honestly could have sworn that it was just fried batter, like you said, but there was nothing in it!!!! but that was the first time i had ever had onion rings, and then once i had one that was basically all onion, and i didn't like it so i haven't had one in years... personally i think i liked the one without the onion better though

I would be curious how they made the rings if there was no onion in them.....it is hard to get the batter to stick to nothing

My favorite onion rings are from Popeye's and sometimes, with my first bite, I pull the onion out.

I had these "onion rings" where it was minced onion that were reformed into uniform rings. How pathetic is that.
