I've only had a touch in assiting with litigation. What exactly are employers looking for when they look for someone with litigation experience. I've done propound discovery, interogatories, drafted motions, orders, set depos, hearings... would you say that I have litigation experience?

I am a legal assistant. I've worked in the areas of personal injury (my favoriate), and family law. I've filed the pleadings myself and I have worked a file from star to finish.

Well, it depends on what the job is for. If it's for an attorney with litigation experience, then that means for courtroom experience. For paralegals or legal assistants, obviously they're not doing the litigating in the courtroom, so the discovery and motions and orders, etc., would definitely be considered litigation experience.

That's some litigation experience.

Have you sat first-chair? Have you been responsible for filing pleadings yourself? Have you ever handled a single case from start to finish? Those are other areas they are looking for.

They mean exactly what you have done, especially if they are seeking to employ a paralegal or lower-level attorney.
