Because it works. They've been able to silence their critics that way for forty years and more. Israel knows a good thing when they see it. And they'll do whatever it takes to keep the US taxpayers money coming in.
On the other hand, it is Anti-Semitic to blame US intervention in the Middle East on Israel. Anybody with half a brain can see that it's the Oil Sheikhs calling the shots there. The invasion of Iraq was just Bush doing the Saudis dirty work.

It's the same reason the Cons/Reps began calling ALL war opponents traitors and unpatriotic. It's a way to avoid confronting the real issues. It's like when a black person commits a crime, get's caught, then screams racism and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson come to the rescue.
Was this as much of an issue before the holocaust?

In order to answer your question, we must first discuss what it means to be politically correct. Dang, I hate that phrase. Politically correct is censorship, you can't say anything that would hurt someone's feelings. PC also allows for non reasoned responses to something that someone thinks is offensive. Keep this in mind, there is not an amendment to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, that says anyone has a right to not be offended.
That said, PC seeks to provide the right to not be offended. Often told, those who seek to impose PC on others resort to name calling. So if I exercise my 1st amendment right to disparage Israel, then I would be blasted not by any reasoned response as to why my statement about Israel is wrong or right. Instead, PC would allow the "offendee" to resort to calling me an anti-semite to try to shut me up. The offendee is trying to trump my 1st amendment rights to free speech with Political Correctness. It is sad. It also shows that those who would use PC are weak. I would much rather discuss in meaningful discourse my statement with the offendee than resort to name calling.
Now, to answer the question, "Why is it anti-semetic to criticize Israel?". It is anti-semetic to criticize Israel because the Political Correctness folks say it is so. They, unfortunately, have no other reason other than "I said so".

Because the jooz think for some misguided reason they are "gods chosen people", and the politcal establishment in this country, being ,more or less run by them, agrees.
It is only because of the veto power of the United States that Israel gets away with all of this crap with the United Nations and has not had hundreds of sanctions placed against them.
Look this up on "google" and you will find Israel has had more problem with the UN than any three countries combined, all saved by the US veto.

It's because jews are so thin skinned if you look at them cross eyed they start to bleed! They are the biggest bunch of pansies you'll ever meet! Most are just weak kneed deviant perverts that would rather have sex with their male cousins than a woman they never met before! Most marry their own first cousins! And these are the reformed jews you find here in the US!

Here is a basic question:
Are you trying to say that criticism of Israel CANNOT be anti semitic no matter what? If so, then you've handed the anti Semites a wonderful way to express their anti semitism and not be accused of it.
In other words, if the shoe fits, wear it.

WOW
So many answers and all of them seem to miss the point
Israel is special. The jews are special. Well, at least a special case in our modern times. Apparently everyone seems to forget that the jews were persucuted as an entire race during the war. Oh I grant you other people were as well - but not an entire race.
It is these actions which bring the anti-semitic calls to the fore-ground. It wasnt a big deal before the war but became very sensitive afterwards. So sensitive that it carries on even today a half century later....why...because people are still trying to wipe them off the face of this earth.
Israel is the ONLY nation on earth today that inhabits the same land, bears the same name, speaks the same language and worships the same God it did 3,000 years ago.
Jews have been fighting for their independence sine before the birth of Christ. It looked like they finnally had something going when the English moved out in 1948 and they declare sovereignty - but - the next day Egypt, Syria, jordan, Lebanon and Iraq invaded and tried to kick them all out. These wars have been going off and on ever since.
Anyone who speaks out against Israel or the Jews is linked into the catgeory of th epeople that want to get rid of the jews altogther.......Thats why its such a touchy subject.
Hope this clarifies it up a bit for you

Because they are very much on defensive when peoples outside their group or society begin to point at them. So to scared them away, they brand them with this ignominy called anti-semitism... I can`t stand this either, its like they MUST be perfect, as its their god given rights to do whatsoever to reach their goals... Ethics get blurred often during this process, but of course, they are soo powerful now, that its quite easy to see them everywhere, where power and money are...
