Paul Collingwood is a better than average one-day captain. Vaughan is the ideal captain but, his form in ODI's is shocking so he doesn't really fit the bill. Collingwood is England's 2nd all-rounder, after Flintoff. Collingwood doesnt have the same big star impact that Freddie has but this is why he is so valuable. People argued that others could have been captain, but they werent suitable and I say this for the following reasons:
Pietersen - England's best ODI player, there is no need to burden him with the captaincy, he is still rough around some edges and needs to be nurtured.
Strauss - Same problem as Vaughan, just doesn't score the runs quickly enough to be of any real benefit to the squad. Should be replaced with someone like Mal Loye or Ed Joyce.
Cook - Cook is the next Thorpe in my opinion. Has as good a cricketing brain as anyone. He is definetly a FUTURE captain, but he as only played 2 ODI's and is still only 20/21/22 so, while I'm sure he would relish the challenge, he is still too young for the job I feel.
Flintoff - Has captained both Test and ODI sides to mixed results. While a very competent captain, he is a big hitter and a strike bowler. In the winter, with Vaughan's absense, it appeared that the job was just too much for him to handle. He must be treated in the same way as KP
I think that, for the next 3 years at least, Collingwood is our best option as captain. Cook is the only player, at the moment, who looks like succeeding him. He is a good captain and understands the game exceptionally well

There is not doubt he is a very committed player giving his all every time he appears .
It is early days to judge him as a good or not so good captain . He seems to have got the role more by default , in that he is virtually guaranteed his place in the team if fit and he is one of the most experienced players in the one day team
I hope he does help to turn around results for the one day team .

got to give him a few more games before can answer that. Not a great start but then we don't have a very good one day team so he's got a tough job. I think he can do well though and hopefully set us back in the right direction

He has been just appointed as Captain of England and it is too early to assesshis captaincy so early.
