From my experience the reason a marriage ends is because one partner in the marriage is not getting what they need from the other partner. Not always a sexual need either. Maybe you just want someone to listen to what you have to say with respect and consideration. My ex was a great father just not so great a husband. There was more to life than what I was getting so after thirteen years I went in search of more and thank god I found it.

In my opinion the biggest reason that marriages end is because there is a lack of respect and honest communication. Respect for self and respect for the spouse can go a long way toward keeping a marriage working.

Other reason--it is so easy to walk away when staying might take a bit of hard work.

There is no biggest reason. If things were that simple, it would be easy to avoid problems. Sometimes it is infidelity. Sometimes it is just that the wrong people get married for the wrong reasons. Some people don't take marriage seriously enough. Some people have unrealistic expectations. Some people are immature. Some people are abusive and manipulative. Some people just drift apart or stop working at it. The possibilities are endless.

I think it can all be summed up in two words.

Unmet expectations.

If someone or something (a marriage) doesn't fulfill expectations, disappointment sets in, and the situation seems hopeless. There's nothing like being let down, especially by someone you love dearly.

Because we want all our needs met without having to do something for our spouse. We blame each other instead of trying to put the marriage back on track.

Selfishness. Today's society is "All about me."
