Thought I would see the Dead Sea Scrolls. Any other excitement there? Spiritual or metaphysical or vegetarian stuff? Maybe even a group tour? Dolphin healing? Inexpensive or funky quarters? Any input appreciated.

Encinitas (north county) has the Self Realization Temple and associated activities. The temple is beautiful, with blue domes, perched on a cliff above the ocean. Meditation, art, incredibly beautiful meditation garden by the sea...sounds like something you'd be interested in. Founded by the guy that wrote Autobiography of a Yogi. Driving to SD will allow you maximum freedom in getting around but taking the train is restful and the south Orange Co/north San Diego county section goes right along the ocean's edge which is a view you don't get from the highway.

Some options for vegetarian food include the Vegetarian Zone in Hillcrest and Roxy Restaurant in Encinitas, which is not vegetarian per se but has many vegetarian options.

If you do go to see The Dead Sea Scrolls, there are quite a few other museums right there. The Museum of Man is good. The S.D. Zoo is right there also. If you can afford it, I'd rent a car to go to L.A. there are too many stops on the way, it takes too long. If you go down to Seaport Village in S.D. there are some nice shops and rest. there. If you go to any of the beach communities, you should be able to get your fill of the spiritual and metaphsical life. Have fun.

I agree with Rob. I took the train recently from San Diego to LA and it was nice and relaxing. I hate the drive between the two. It took about 2 hours but just sat and read. The drive can often take 2 hours also but it's not as relaxing.

Take the train to San Diego and pick up a copy of the "Reader" at nearly any newstand. There will be plenty of stuff in there.
