To some degree, two more generations. Not unlike Korea I'd guess.

Assuming the new Iraq govt doesn't collapse under its own inability to remain non-partisan -- we're probably there for decades in one form or another.
Best possible case -- the Iraq govt (with or without our help, separate issue) succeeds in uniting the country under one benevolent rule. We'll still have a miltary base there for decades, like we do in Germany, Okinawa, Turkey, Soudi Arabia, Italy, etc.....
As far as combat operations -- that's difficult to determine. There is no end in sigh to the violence, and nothing we seem to do reduces the violence, so there is no way to reasonably predict when the violence will end. So, it just becomes a political question of how long we'll stay to fight someone else's war. And I don't make political predictions.

I really believe we aren't leaving. It is too sweet of a spot to sit. As I've said before. Look at an atlas. What a fine place for a strategic Middle East military base. We're already building a gigantic embassy.

According to Thomas Ricks of the Washington Post, We will have a footing in there (10,000-20,000 troops) for many years and could have to go back in there in the future depending on how things play out.

As long as the people of this country (the US) let elite politicians and the multi-nationals they work for keep US troops there.
