There was supposed to be a UN military force protecting the Israeli/Lebanese border, but it proved worthless just like any other UN endeavor. Israel waited weeks for the UN to put their forces back in place for the ceasefire. They appeared very slowly, and I'm not sure the full force ever arrived. After the fighting stopped it never makes the news anymore.

Israel's attacks on Shi'ite Islamist extremists Hezbollah were inevitable following the raid on an IDF position in northern Israel; involving the murder of Israeli troops and the kidnap of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev.

Anyone who knows the history of the Israeli military cannot be surprised at the nature and strength of their reaction. The Hezbollah militia deserved every thing they got. It was they, not the Israeli's who victimised the South Lebanese civilians with their actions.

As a person i could care less, but as a country yes we support Israel and their military strikes, they get them approved by us before the do anything in the region, with out our support they would have been driven out years ago! this is one of the main reasons we are so hated in that region!!

No, in hindsight the war was a mistake that never should have happened.

Though I put much of the blame on the Lebanese government for giving Hezbollah free reign on their territory.

The Lebanese government is responsible for any terrorist organization using its territory to launch attacks against another nation.

I kind of understand that they just wanted rid of Hezbollah (was it them, there's so many I get muddled up!) so thought blasting the country to kingdom come would do the trick, but it didn't and it just made the Israelis look a bit naff .
