I told an older friend of mine that I was going to shave my head. My hair is naturally curly and during the summer gets very hot. He told me if I shaved it, it wouldn't grow back as curly as before. I think it might be just an old wives tale, but I need to be sure if it will/won't happen.

It will not. Hair grows in curly because the pores it comes from are crescent shaped, unlike straight hair, where the pores are circular. Shaving your head will not change your hair.

well if you shave your head you won't have hair.
But yes. It will grow back curly. (or what ever you hair was like before) It will also grow back stronger and most likely thicker. But not much thicker.

The curl is determined within the root - shaving won't change that. If you have waves, not tight curls, the regrowth with appear straighter until your hair gets longer.

Your hair will grow the same. There's a slim rare chance that it might grow back differently, but it's almost non-existant, so I wouldn't count on it.

Your curly hair is engrained in your DNA. Just like your fingernails know to grow back straight when you clip them. Your hair "knows" its curly

Shave it off. It will grow back in either the same as now or get curlier.
