Self respect is the underlying foundation of respect of others. We need not agree with people to respect them. We do well to know our selves and to know our values and personal boundaries. We do well to align our actions with our values. As we increasingly understand ourselves we create safety for others to be who they are with us. When we see who others really are, we tend to respect them.
Intimacy can be understood as In-To-Me-See. Allowing yourself to be seen and experienced in your authenticity models what you expect from others. As people tend to rise to their expectations you will find being respectful is rewarded by respect. Accepting creates acceptance. Trusting creates trust.
What you resist you create in your life, you exaggerate in your mind or you become as a result of your constant attention to it.

Seek out people who are different than you. Be respectful and open to the differences. If you find yourself a bit uncomfortable you are in a place of rich learning.

Self respect makes all this power available for your use. Self respect makes you the chooser.

There are things that I respect because it makes someone a good person. My best friend cares so LITTLE about what others think about her, and I respect that. My father knows so much and motivates people so much, and I respect that. I respect a lot of people that don't respect me back. I respect a lot of people that I don't even like.

Most people are not going to show you respect. That's why it is up to you to respect yourself!

I set out respecting everyone. While I know our differences may be many - the person may act like a complete jerk - I know that person is only acting in that way because of fear and self-hate.

That being said, those who continue to command my respect are those who are very true to themselves; those who are unafraid to show who they really are; those who are peaceful and kind to all others; those who are unafraid of saying "I love myself! I'm an important person too!"; those who treat other people/animals/objects/the world like they are important; those who listen; those who speak up against injustices and inequalities; those who try to bring positivity to everything and really make a difference.

After all, when all is said and done, it will be these qualities that made a difference... the qualities that are Love... not how many hours someone logged in at work.

Peace :)

there is attractiveness and nature in all of Canada. by the Maritime provinces ( Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island) the everybody is large friendly, and the organic international is large with Whale staring at journeys to Moose wandering around your backyard. Quebec and Ontario are the main inhabitants provinces with alot of historic previous (properly to us that's alot of historic previous LOL) yet a lot of wasteland additionally. The prairie provinces (Manitoba and Saskatchewan) noticeably flat yet interior the Northern aspects a lot of wasteland and organic international, the sunrises and sunsets on the prairies are pleasing!! The Western provinces (British Columbia and Alberta) have the Rocky Mountains, Banff and Jasper in Alberta are in simple terms pleasing places and the Okanagan Valley in BC is solid on. The Northern Territories (The Yukon Territory, The Northwest Territory, and Nunavut) properly in case you like Nature those are the places to pass very rugged terrain it is frequently wasteland. After asserting all of that and being an Ontario boy...the suitable advice i provides you is to learn the area which you incredibly desire to pass to, there isn't any longer a place in Canada that a one million/2 hourchronic won't get you into the country to breath clean air and witness nature at that's suitable!!!

In practice, intelligence is what first draws my respect, but it would be better that the quality were good will, rather than intellligence. Goodness which doesn't trumpet its brilliance has a hard time being noticed.

It is difficult to continue respecting someone who has no respect for oneself, but if the person's actions and intentions are worthy of respect, it would be appropriate to continue respecting him.

I usually do not read other responses before I answer but I did this time out of curiosity. I agree with Jane Henry all the way. I always try to be respectable whether someone else is or not because I do not want to be a follower, I want to be a leader. I will not be rude and disrespectful just because someone is to me. They would be dictating my every move.

Some people deserve respect, while others need to earn it. That being said, some of the qualities that would earn my respect would be perseverence and strong work ethic, honesty, intelligence, dedication to a passion, dedication to family, spouse, and children, integrity and morality, wit, charm, class, well mannered, traditional in some respects but also balanced out with modernity, open-mindedness, open to change, and willingness to provide honest advice.

I am more likely to give respect when I receive it in return, but I will respect some people, like my mother, my elders, the Pope, Buddhist monks.....even if they do not respect me in return.

I don't need to see any particular quality to respect a person in terms of being mannerable to them. I believe that everyone is to be respected in spite of flaws and all. That's just my philosophy. Also, I do show respect even when I am not shown any, I believe this is the right thing to do. However if asked for qualities that i would love to emulate they would have to be, honesty, integrity, courage, loyalty and a sense of Godliness.

Bless you

I respect others regardless of qualities. But keep in mind that 'respecting someone' isn't the same as putting up with anything.

Loyalty above all--as long as they are loyal, they must have some sense of "group pride"

Kindness--beging mean only makes others dislike you, which puts you behind in life, therefore you do not wish the best for yourself and others--a major flaw

Truthfulness--yeah, it may hurt, but it is a major virtue

Compassion--I think that people who have it make the world much sweeter
