Why do u want to change ur IP address. Do u have a static IP in the first case. If so, u cant change it. If u have Internet connection, with a dynamic IP, then u get a new IP each time u reconnect daily. All u can do is install a Proxy or Use software like HIDEIP Platinum to give a different IP to other when they are trying to trace u...

Apples and oranges there. One has nothing to do with the other. Changing your IP address isn't going to protect your computer. And your failure to protect your computer won't be fixed by changing your IP.

Most Internet accounts use dynamic IP addressing. Even so, some systems don't change your IP address very often at all. My address is officially dynamically assigned but has only changed a couple of times in 6 years.

If you are using a router it's as easy as restarting the router. If not, then it's a short process.

Go to My Computer, there should be a quick links bar on the side of that window (unless you turned it off) on that bar click on My Network Places, from there on the same bar, click on View Network Connections. Here you will see you internet connectivity and an icon for ever network connection you have. Right click on the one who's IP you want to change and go to properties. On that window there should be a list of protocols and such for that connection. Scoll all the way down that list and you should see something containing (TCP/IP) click on it and then click on the Properties button that just lit up. Here you can tell it to automatically obtain an IP (in the casde that you have a router) or set your own IP. Each of the four number you choose must be between but not including 0 and 257

You can Always Use proxies to hide your ip addres , search on goold for proxy list and for IE exploer go on toolts Inter net options, i think advanced and connections or somthing just keep clicking and u should find a tab that says proxy and put in the info you got some google, or you can use Hide Ip platinum, it hides ur ip address from others, if u have dsl u could turn u modem off and it would give u a new ip when u turn it back on, this will not work with cable

Hi Hugs & kisses,

I dont know why, but if you are running XP, just use the built in firewall that it has.
Also, if your on cable/dsl get you a router or switch and use that. Better defence.

Also if you already have those, 1 you should not have opened it up to where someone can get it. Bad idea.

If you are talking about your LAN IP, you can change that within the router (if you have one).
If you are talking about the IP that your ISP give you and you are on cable or dsl, then unplug the modem for a few days, some say 72 hours for it to reset. Some do it automatically.

Try those and let me know.

It doesn't matter if you change the IP address, because it will be recorded in the ISP's documentation. When it comes to tracking on the Internet, there really is no place to hide. There is always a trail of breadcrumbs to follow. Always!

first of all, if your computer is insecure, changing your IP isn't gonna do you much good.

but if you want your IP to show as something else when you visit a website, check out Tor. Ignore 'free proxies' and the lists that you find them in, those may not be legal. Tor is legal and chains more than one proxy together!

Changing your IP Address isn't going to protect your computer.

The following methods will:
1. Antivirus Software - http://avast.com
2. Anti-Spyware Software - http://prevx.com
3. Block Bad Hosts - http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
4. Use OpenDNS Namerservers - http://opendns.com
5. Make use of Windows Firewall included in Windows XP.

The links I've provided you are only suggesstions. There are, of course, perfectly find alternates that you could use.

Good luck,
Chris

The only way to actually change your IP address is to contact your Internet Service Provider.

you cant never change your IP # in your computer.....

everycomputer got an IP # (IP #'s finds the address only)

but some hackers Hacks your computer with your IP #....

and thats only some of them...not all...

its not that easy to know someone;s IP #....

so just dont worry about it..

in here....US....theres only one way to find where you are.

(YOUR HOME ADDRESS)

and thats by your IP #....so they made it hard....that no one
