Well, the fact that your husband drinks and smokes probably doesn't help the situation, but the problem might be that you aren't timing sex right. It's actually pretty easy to figure out your most fertile times just by taking your temperature every morning. I'd recommend checking out www.fertilityfriend.com, they explain all about it, and it's totally free!
Count the first day of your period as day 1; if you have regular cycles, you are probably most fertile on day 14. So you'd want to make sure you were having sex between maybe day 10 and day 17. And unfortunately, you can't tell if you're pregnant the very next day, it takes about 14 days before a pregnancy test will turn up positive. Most couples get pregnant within the first 6 months to a year while actively trying, so give it a couple months before you go see a doctor.
Good luck to you!

If you're trying to get pregnant then you should research better ways to conceive online. To give you a short answer - yes, you could be pregnant. If you've had sex, you can be pregnant.
But you need to look at more than whether or not you've had sex, you need to look at WHEN you had sex. The typical woman will ovulate approximately 9 days after the start of her period and will be fertile for about 5 days if my memory serves me correctly. However, that's not every woman. Some women get pregnant during their period where others would never be fertile during that time. Add to that the fact that sperm can live for a few days and you've got a recipe which will hopefully blend well for you.
As for your husband's smoking and drinking - if he's a social drinker then that's one thing but if he's drunk at home all the time it could pose a problem later if you have children. Smoking may lower his sperm count somewhat, but not enough to prevent you from having children. Additionally, if you end up having a baby it's ideal that he smoke outside if he won't quit.
Your best bet is to get one of those over the counter ovulation kits and start there. If you're still unable to conceive, talk to your doctor to look at possibilities of finding out WHY you're not getting pregnant. Best of luck!

Hi there,
I frequently bleed after sex, only a little but enough for you to know, especially if it has been quite energetic. You can't get pregnant having sex when you have the curse and it doesn't affect your fertility. Your partner smoking and drinking though will affect his fertility. Try the missionary position and then put your bum up on a cushion after wards it helps thing to move in the right direction. Hope this helps and good luck but if you carry on having problems a trip to the doctor would be an idea.

Drinking and smoking won't affect it...although studies have shown that if your husband is drunk while you conceive, there is an increased risk of fetal alcohol syndrome! Women aren't the only ones to blame anymore...if you have sex more than 3 times per week his sperm count will go down so it will actually make it MORE difficult to get pregnant. A lot of people do the deed every day thinking that will increase their chances, but it actually does harm. Half the women I know got pregnant within six months. If you have sex three times a week for six months and still nothing, then go to a doc. P.S. your body releases eggs 1 and a half to 3 weeks AFTER your period. Having sex on your period does nothing.

bleeding w/in 24 hrs after sex doesn't mean you're pregnant, and having sex on your period is a way to NOT get pregnant, for most people, BTW. Do some research, go to webmd, and learn about little things you can do, and also your body's cycle, and when you ovulate. I believe drinking and smoking can decrease your husband's sperm count. On webmd, there are things he can do (and avoid) to increase them. Both of you need to be healthy, is a start, and smoking isn't healthy. If he likes orange juice, tell him to chug away, as much as he wants b/c it's full of nutrients that will help his body produce more sperm.

I want so much to answer this, but drinking and smoking just keep getting in the way of logic. If you want a healthy baby, it makes sense to quit both before and after conceiving. However, it is not very likely that his doing so is keeping you from getting pregnant. Many women spot when they are pregnant. If you want to be sure, take a pregnancy test or visit your GYN.

If you are ttc, you and your husband need to be as healthy as you can which means that he should stop drinking and smoking. If you are really trying to get pregnant, you should be having sex when you are ovulating, not when you are on your period. If you have a normal 28 day cycle, you should ovulate around the 14th day of your cycle.

Your ovulate before your period. Smoking and drinking are not good in general. Quit smoking and lessen the drinking would be my suggestion even with just bringing a child into the family. Good luck!

Possibly. I had sex while I was pregnant with my son and I had some bleeding. I decided to quit after that to make sure that I wasn't harmning that baby.
