Dead Marxist is right again. I do not doubt that there are Leftist people who were homeschooled and have a gun, but liberal philosophy, such as it is, like all philosophy, is concerned with generalities.
As to why Leftists hate home-schooling, I think it is a bit more venal than Dead Marxist, who is a more charitable soul, thinks. If a burglar is killed by a homeowner, in most of the USA, the homeowner goes free. This means there is no trial - not for the homeowner - not for the burglar. There is no repeat offense. It has a chilling effect on a whole lot of low lifes - so there are fewer crimes, fewer trials, fewer victims, less need for social workers, prosecutors, jailkeeps, police, defence lawyers, welfare and no need for more civil servants to supervise the police, etc.
Home schooling is even more disruptive to the sordid business of the hogs eating out of the public troughs. It is also embarrassing because home schooled children do better, on average, than their publicly schooled brethren. Let me stress, it is no fault of the publicly schooled children.
What we have to stop doing is rewarding liberals for failure. Doing that makes it easy to be a liberal.

I don't mind gun ownership by people who will hunt or go to a shooting range... but random city dwellers having guns is just asking for an accident. If it was mandated by the government to take a gun safety class, target shooting class, and a few other handy lessons before being allowed to purchase a gun, I'd be all for everyone who qualified having a gun... as it stands now (well, back in 2002 when I bought my first hunting rifle), they only do a background check. It's kind of scary how many people are just allowed to have guns without any education.
Homeschooling... I just don't understand why anyone would be against that with how horrible the public schools in America are these days. Students don't learn a whole lot in school because of stupid things like "no child gets left behind" which usually means, (in CA,) that the entire class is being slowed down for only one or two individuals who really should have been left back a grade or two. The Curriculum is too easy at most schools, history of the behavior of the US in foreign affairs is not told truthfully as in they leave out completely the US's role in placing Saddam Hussein in power and the many Massacres that took place in Vietnam and then covered up by Congressmen and others in the govt., and US students don't learn as much or as quickly as many other 1st world countries... so why would anyone not homeschool their children if they can afford to do so? All you need to do to have your children learn to behave around other children and adults is involve them in sports, dance, music, or 4-H.
If I move back to the US (I am still a US citizen) I plan on homeschooling my child... with the help of a Hired Tutor for subjects that don't fall under the two degrees I am working on (European History and Biology) or the degrees that my husband has achieved. I do agree with others that too many ill educated adults are trying to teach their children and think it would be beneficial to require at least a BA of the parent before allowing them to be the sole teacher.

If the parents that teach their children are ignorant, there is only one thing to blame...
Public school.
I was homeschooled, and every other homeschooler I know is extremely intelligent (at least, compared to the dull bulbs that come out of public school) and better prepared for life.
Social interaction is only healthy if the subjects themselves are healthy. There is far more risk involved from bad peer pressure than any kind of benefit gained by social interaction. I obviously have no problem expressing myself as the result of being homeschooled, and have no shortage of friends.
So where does that leave your ignorant objections? Don't knock it 'til you've tried it (and I've tried both by the way).
I'm not saying that there aren't cases where homeschooling is used as an excuse to get out of school, or the child doesn't receive an adequate education, but when you consider that only 60% of public school kids graduate (according to one of the current Democratic presidential candidates) you are in no position to use that as an objection either.

Well, I'm not a liberal or conservative "I'm middle of the road" and no ones going to take my firearms,
period. But, from what I've seen from home-schooling, and its the parents fault for the most part. They don't get a proper education. I'm talking about a 14 year old that can't read. Well,
she can read some but probably on about a 4th grade level.
While home-schooling does sound fine in principle. There isn't anything in place to assure that the children are getting the education needed on the whole. Have a GREAT DAY!

I think they hate children being taught how to use guns at home. Guns did not help the people at Waco nor did the A.C.L.U. in that it is the main reason for the 2nd Amendment. Homeschooling is probably the one they hate the most. How can a child be indoctrinated if they are not in a public school class room with a socialist posing as a teacher. It is ridiculous that people think you mean them personally and not the politicians in DC. Can you put me on a T-shirt ?

I am a Liberal who doesn't hate either of these things. I really can't hate gun ownership as I own eight of them but I am responsible. I keep them locked up. I don't hate homeschooling either but I think a child would benefit from more interaction with his or her peers in a traditional school setting. Also, some parents are just not qualified to teach children. I am a teacher. It is much more than standing in front of a board and reading from a book. It is about understanding children and how they learn. It is about communicating with them on their level and helping them to achieve despite the distractions in their lives. Not all teachers are socialists. They span every different political ideology. I would really be scared to imagine some of the wizards on this site teaching kids. God help us all!
Note to Kevin, not all Liberals ran from military service. I am retired from the Navy and did several tours in Iraq.

Wow. More stereotyping. How extremely helpful.
I happen to be a liberal, and I don't have any problem with gun ownership OR homeschooling. I do believe in gun safety and gun control, but that only means keeping us and our children safe, not keeping people from their right to own the guns that the Constitution rightfully protects. All I ask for is gun safety and prevention of the wrong people getting them.
As far as homeschooling is concerned, studies show that home schooled children test very well. Some of them have a hard time adapting to college, but on the whole they do alright. So long as the parents are qualified to teach their children, and that they still make sure their kids are socialized properly, then I think homeschooling is great!
So I'm living proof that you are grossly oversimplifying the liberal side. Typical. I can hardly blame you, though, because a lot of dimwitted liberals do the same thing to conservatives. It is this partisan attitude that is causing all the corruption in our government. Too many people care about what side of the fence they are on, and not enough people care about the issues themselves and what is right.

i think that ppl, regardless of their political views, have strong feelings about both of these issues.
upon reading some of these post i conclude that most ppl are ignorant of home schooling and seem to think it is only for some conservative uber-christian that arbors society that advocates this method of education.
as an educator, i have seen the failure of our public schools in the last decade or longer to educate our children properly.
history is being re-written, social skills are given precedence over reading and math skills. many students 'graduate' but can't read, spell or even make change.
it is difficult to maintain discipline in the school room. students are very aware that they cannot be punished and if one attempt to bring order, the ACLU can sue you. Aggressive students rule over the non-aggressive and violence is a fact of their daily life.
more parents are opting to take their children's education and safety in their own hands. it is very hard work and requires complete dedication to do it.
In many states, curriculum is available to families at no cost through virtual public schools and distance-learning programs. These are not tutoring programs, they’re full-time, tuition-free, public schools using award-winning curriculum.
one should be cautious when sterotyping people.

First off owning guns are not a bad thing but using that worn out statement about libs and gun control is and so is owning a gun to protect yourself is. I don't think it is necessary for people to own machine guns, or carry them hidden. I also don't think people with criminal records need to own any kind of gun, therefore we need some kind of gun control. Gun control is having some rules to help protect the public not outlawing guns completely. Don't go to the same old thing that gun control is making guns outlawed, it is so tiresome to hear. As far as home schooling goes, that is a parents choice. My only concern would be to make sure the child is socialized with his age group and the parent or other person teaching is qualified.
Just a quick add on: I don't hate anyone, not even Bush, However I do disagree with almost everything he says. Please don't confuse hate with disagreement. Thanks

When did you come up with this gem, Marxist?
Few people are even capable and qualified to "home school."
And if the feel of warm steel makes you feel more "secure," get the biggest gun you can afford. I could care less.
You are such a blatant troll it just amazes me.
How about you and I get into a real, adult, intelligent, civil discourse on a topic?
C'mon, I challenge you.
I'm sure we can find a topic we can both speak with integrity on, as opposed to just BS.
I am so damned tired of your trolling postings.
Show this forum that you're a man and engage me in a real debate. You can invite all your conservative friends to watch...
