I know it isn't the air pressure. The ride seems fine. Is it my struts/shocks? How much for parts? Is it a DIY job?

Great answers from all of you.

However, you all seem to be split amongst springs and shocks....

Your explorer has coil springs in the front and leaf springs in the rear. No struts. It sounds as if the left rear multi- leaf spring set has lost tension or may have a broken leaf in the center mount. You could replace just the left side but run the risk of a low right side after replacing the left rear spring.

Wolfcat is correct, you've got a broken spring or a spring set that has started to slip. This is fairly common on your model year explorer. They were still putting the Explorer on the ranger truck frame at the time...didn't work out very well.

It is by no means a DIY job unless you've got a well stocked work shop and the right tools to address the repair. Replacement cost should run around $200 - $280 depending on where you live.

As a cautionary note this is not something you want to leave unattended. If the ride seems ok now chances are the spring clamps have loosened and allowed the spring to relax under the pressure of the vehicle. It will get worse and it could lead to other issues....differential damage, major tire wear, etc.

it is your shocks and they are 29.99 each shock.and it is better to replace both shocks at the same time.and as far as a diy job depends on how much you know about a car.you have to jack up the vehicle then get another jack and jack up the shock enough to remove it and then replace it.and that price is for a 6 cylinder and an 8 cylinder. And dont doubt me because I am a girl I raced for 5 years and had to build my own cars.I also worked as a repairwoman and a body and paint woman for years. at a autobody shop. Hope this helps

Look at the left rear spring. It is either broken, or it has weakened. It's time to replace the shocks anyway. good luck.

countryboy has the best answer here. The leaf spring is probably broken, should be replaced on both sides.
