I suspect that "seniors" (whatever that may mean) are not as into computers as younger people are, and....given the other sections of YA, there is one hell of a lot of nonsense, racisim, religious lunacy, homophobia, woman-hating, man-hating people, all writing in anonymity, spewing out vile diatribes....one look at this nonsense and most sane people will leave, not to come back. This is Troll Central...face it!
Here is the ONLY method to stop the nonsense and return this site, in general, to a useful, fun place: NEVER, NEVER respond to a troll's "question." (Did I say, NEVER?) Simple report the question, then click "BLOCK." (Clicking block is very important, for the troll cannot get to your questions and report you into an early demise at Yahoo.). Trolls operate out of getting responses, no matter what they are, they just love any kind of attention. No matter what section, if you find a quesiton objectionable, pass your mouse over the avitar...IF the person is new (within the past few days), has less than 100 or so points, usually has NO EMAIL address....YOU KNOW you are dealing with a troll. So anytime you see a quesiton that is strange, check out the asker...trolls have to keep reinventing and rejoining under new names, for the screen names are banned quickly. ALL NEW members are suspect! Again, Don't write one word to a troll, report, then block...easy as that.

Well, as a proportion of the population that's on the net, they are a minority already, I think, so naturally there are fewer people here.
I don't think there is as much nastiness here as in the other sections, so it might not be the nastiness. I think it's just that matured folks, if they have nothing more to add or to say, they don't post it, that's all. Sometimes I just enjoy others' postings, as they have said all I want to say anyway, and you won't know I have been to this section because I didn't post. I think there are many matured readers of this section, and they do post when they feel they can contribute to the conversation.

I kind of agree that it may calm down after the "children" go back to school. It seems they have nothing else to do.
One day I was on a catagory, don't remember which one, but all of a sudden it got inindated with a lot of obtruse questions that should have been on another catagory. It was like every-body planned this invasion. And you could tell by the inane questions that it was coming from the "kids". It just takes up your time of having to scan through the dumb ones, to answer the more serious and sincere ones. Then of course there are the ones who think they know it all, and don't have a clue.

Hi Pee Mee, There are a few who try to spoil the fun, and I have occasionally had days when I can't be bothered, but if we let them get to us there would be even less of us. So don't give up.
I don't think it can all be blamed on school holidays either. Some younger people seem very polite and caring.
What Goldwing says is true, ignore trolls and maybe they will get fed up one day.

like others here I spend a lot of time on history, myth and a few other sites. however, when I ask specific questions that only
" those in the know " would understand and answer seriously hate having a lot of people give silly answers. as an example I asked " A. Y. A. M.M. ? " which is a legitimate question. one would be surprised how many " ridiculous " answers I received.

I'm not quite at the senior citizen level of age yet, but I'm not too far away either. If it's not the nasty questions and answers from the younger ones, it's the disrespectful and downright stupid questions and answers. Older people do have much to share - stories, great wisdom, laughter.

Yes sometimes it does put me off a bit, I usually try not to bother about the idiots but at times they do rankle. I ended up making my Yahoo private as I got so sick of this other user who sent me nasty emails all the time, shame really as I enjoyed chatting with you all. Maybe I'm just in a slump.

It can be disheartening to be invaded by bad attitude. But we are survivors, I think we can all agree on that. Gold Wing gives good advice. We have a community here. Like all communities we are a mixture of outlooks and ideas, support and nurturing. I for one derive a great amount of support, encouragement, and humor here. As Tiny Tim [no not him] said, 'God bless us everyone'.

You are right, older people have alot to share (I am older lol). Sometimes I do not answer questions that put people down or seem immature. I really do enjoy this category though.

I'm here!
I must admit that at the moment I'm wondering whether to "clock off" YA till the end of the school holidays - some of the postings are so puerile that I can only conclude the children have nothing to do.
