My mother smoked with me and I had:
1) Low birthweight
2) Colic
3) Respiratory Infection
4) Lots of childhood illnesses (I was ALWAYS at the doctor)

Also, now I am dealing with fertility issues! Think of all the reasons why you want a baby of your own and I'm sure you want the baby to be healthy. You need to put your baby's health above your cravings for cigarettes. It wasn't fair to me (or any other baby) to start out life at a disadvantage so kick the habit today.

Yes, your b/f's drinking can effect his sperm count so he should stop too.

If you are not prepared to give up your vices, then you are not prepared to take on the responsibility of a human life. Plain as that.

Smoking in parents results in high instances of low birth weight, premature delivery and therefore neurological problems, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and of course, the likelihood that you will die sooner. Doesn't matter what other people do, or have done--smoking while pregnant is like intentionally poisoning your baby, does that sound good to you?

Do not get pregnant. You are not ready for it, neither is your boyfriend, and when you are ready, and in a committed and legal relationship, you will both gladly give up your habits. Until then, don't drag a child into the situation. It's not fair, and it's not what a good parent would do.

Get a puppy instead.

I knew a lady who smoked throughout both her pregnancies. Still smokes actually. She once told me that her biggest regret was smoking while she was pregnant. She says she should have stopped, at least for those nine months because both daughters (now teenagers) suffered severe asthma and allergies throughout their childhood, and even now.

BUT make sure that you both want the responsibility of a child before you get pregnant. It seems though you both are a bit resistant to letting go of the "party" phase. Trust me, raising a child is hard work.

I would talk to your doctor. I was told by someone that said not to quit smoking DURING pregnancy, because you have withdrawls and other side effects that also affect your baby. Sounded crazy to me, but then I don't smoke. I would think you should quit well before you try to have a baby. You want to give your child the healthiest environment possible, right? (You should also be married too, otherwise you may end up raising this baby alone.) Good luck & God bless.

I would quite smoking I have a friend who smoked up until the day she found out. I would say he should cut back on drinking and it wouldn't hurt to try it for at least 3mons no smoking and drinking or limit it

You should DEFINATELY quit if you plan to bring a child into this world. It would be totally selfish of you to knowingly hinder giving your child the healtiest start possible. Also start now on an over the counter prenatal vitamin as the folic acids are even more important before conception.

Stop smoking....that is very very bad for the baby! If your b/f drinks, that really doesn't matter with conceiving, but it would be could if he didn't drink a lot, just so he can be there to help you (and not be drunk). good luck!

well honestly...i personally think if u stop smoking and he stops drinking it will give u a better chance to get pregnant cause both smoking and drinking causes sperm to die (low sperm rate) even coffee or any caffinated drink does as well but me and my ex both smoked for a lil over 10 years we still do unfortunately and im 25 wks preggers with a baby boy...its best for u to stop smoking tho before u get pregnant that way u wont have to try to quit when u find out u are unfortunately im still smoking and pregnant and this is my first baby even tho baby is still very healthy my dr advises me to quit everytime i see him...this is not good for u or baby it takes oxygen away from the both of u and can cause premature births and also lung disease for u...and yes i know...plenty of ppl have smoked while they were pregnant and the babies came out fine...but ur taking a chance...i regret smoking while pregnant but i dont care what anyone says quitting its one of the hardest things ulls have to do in ur life...for me it is and im still trying but enough preaching! either way smoking or not smoking drinking or not drinking...if u are meant to get pregnant you'll get pregnant simlpe as that...babys are gifts from god and he gives them to us for a reason! best time to concieve is in the mornings when ya'll first wake up thats the only time throught out the whole day ur hubby/bf has the highest sperm count or when u know when ur ovulating...if u dont know whe..go buy and ovulating kit..their between 20-40$ walmart CVS sales them the kit will tell u how to use it and when ur ovulating and most of the time esp with me...u'll get preggers when uve gave up on trying thats what happened to me funny how life is huh but best of luck to the both of u keep us updated!
