must be getting pretty nervous now. your precious 14 game lead has sunk to only 6.5...which doesnt include the game against baltimore. reminds me a lot of 1978. nervousss?

In the last 60 games the Red Sox have played .500. They were 20 games over .500 on May 28 and are 20 games over .500 now. In that time, the Yankees have gone from 6 games under .500 to 6 games over .500 or .600 ball. If the Yankees play .600 ball the rest of the season and the Red Sox only play .500 ball the rest of the season. They will end with identical 92-70 records. Depending on whether they would also win the wild card (like 2005 their record against each other would control, right now Red Sox lead 7-5) there might be a one game playoff. So there are still a lot of big "ifs" for the Yankees, but it could happen. The Yankees are running through the Royals and Devil Rays, which they need to do. The test will come later when they face stiffer competition

As a Red Sox fan...nope..not yet anyway...the Yanks are in the cake part of their schedule and the Sox are in a tougher part of their schedule. Red Sox have an easier August than the Yankees do though so I wouldn't go strutting your stuff just yet Yankee fans...remember...the Yankees are still in second by 6.5 games...the Yankees still have to come and take first away from the team with the best record...and honestly, I don't think they will...I am still not convinced the Yanks will even get the Wild Card. Oh and about 1978...that has absolutely nothing to do with this year...these are two entirely different teams...all these comparisons to 1978 are pretty retarded.

Their lead has shrunk and Boston has been a .500 team since June but the Yankees have a very easy section of the season now. Tampa Bay and KC. Not the best teams on earth, KC seems to have come back down to earth after taking 2 out of 3 against the Tigers and Tampa Bay has been terrible for the past month. I think that 5 of the next 6 series, after this easy part, are against CLE,DET(twice),BOS and LAA. It would be tough to take 2 out of 3 from any of them.

I'm a Sox fan and to be honest with you I'm not worried. First of all i never thought we were going to play as good as we were playing and also never thought the yankees were goign to stink as bad as they were. However everythign has its ups and downs. Just because the Yankees bats are swinging well doesn't mean that they'll continue to swing well. Their pitchign still isnt very good. In the end the Yankees will probably catch up to the Sox, probably even pass them but I'm not worried. I'm a baseball fan, win or lose, I love the Sox.

The Yankees are playing better now and any knowledgeable fan of the game knows a team as good as the Yankees has a serious run at the Red Sox left in them.

Yanks fans are getting too cocky too early, like people were saying about the strength of schedule.
You Yanks fans keep talking about 1978, but I bet in Boston they are talking about a few years ago when they took the last 3 games and took way you being the ALCS champs.
I'm not a fan of either team, I'm just saying the truth

Oh yea..now that all the other teams started to suck less they are catching up aren't they? I don't have a problem with it. This season has been pretty boring because we haven't had to worry about any one taking the lead from us. The $kankees have impressed me with the last couple of games they played I'll admit but I'm definitely not nervous just excited

I am from New York but went to school in Boston. I have asked all of my friends from Boston about this season and you seemt o get two responses which both are a result of their high from their 2004 world series. a) We won our world series I am happy. b) If this was 2002 we would all be running scarred right now.

You must be dumb, if you havent noticed, the Yankees and their 200mill payroll are beating the Royals and Devil Rays. While Cleveland and Red Sox play much tougher opponents.
Wait till mid August rolls around and the Yankees start playing the good teams. And...oh btw, the Red Sox still have 15 games left against the Devil Rays. Yea...enjoy while you still can.

Yankees will choke as they play harder teams. The Red Sox, who are most used to playing good teams like CLE, andDET, will eventually run away with it.
