The plumber quoted us a whopping $500+ not even including the $695 faucet!! I can get an entire washing machine or refrigerator for less than that!!!

Any ideas? I live in Schaumburg, IL. (60193)

I would go to the local store (home depot, lowes, etc) and find a faucet you love... and talk to them about installation... we have always put in our own. if you absolutely cannot do it yourself, the store can recommend someone.

the price that you are quoted by that plumber is outrageous and way out of line.

i've never seen a faucet over $300 max... and that is high end faucets!

If you are replacing an existing faucet, it is really easy to do it yourself. Even if you have to purchase a few extra wrenches and tools, it going to be significantly cheaper than paying the plumber.

A previous responder already gave you a link to DIY. If you still don't feel comfortable, go over the the Lowes in Arlington Heights or the Home Depot by you and talk to some of the guys in plumbing. Look for some of the more experienced guys and they will talk your head off about tips and tricks for installing. Go on a Friday night or some time when they are not so busy. You will learn a lot from these guys.

Good luck!

If this is a replacement faucet (supply lines already installed) that price is outrageous. Should take him less than an hour to install it. This includes him having to drill any additional holes if needed. Find someone else. DIY is the best way to go on this though.

I would do it myself. Check out DIY or check at Lowes sometimes they offer installation. I would definitely get a different plumber.
