Your first intial visit will involve an internal exam - pretty much like a regular pap with your family doctor. Depending on the dr. sometimes the internal does hurt a bit - my dr. is very fast and I found it a bit uncomfortable. You'll then be sent for routine blood work and the genetic screening if you've requested it. Your ob will talk to you about vitamins and then discuss any other info they, and you, feel is important. It's hard to know for sure exactly what they will want to discuss as every dr. is different.
After your intial visit, and before you reach about 36 weeks, you will be weighed, your urine will be tested, your blood pressure checked and your uterus measured from the outside.
Around 20 weeks you will also go in for an ultrasound! I LOVED my ultrasound bec/ you get a chance to see your little one moving around inside you! The ultrasound does not hurt bec/ the paddle they use to take the pictures is applied to the outside of your belly. The only thing with an ultrasound is having to have a full bladder while it's happening. They push down on your belly while doing to ultrasound and several times I thought I was going to pee! Other than that it was a really positive experience I wish I could do again.
After around 36 weeks the dr. will start to check your cervix which will involve more internal exams. This is done to see if you've started to dilate/efface.
I realize that it is difficult to have someone looking at your private parts but just keep in mind that your dr. has probably seen thousands of people. I found that my ob was much faster then my family doctor - they do the internal exams more frequently.
Good luck and don't worry...everything will work out!

The first pregnancy ob/gyn appointment isn't that much different than a regular exam. Get the movie "Little Black Book" with Britney Murphy and watch the scene where she goes to the doctor. They will keep telling you scoot down and keep your legs open. A good doctor will talk you through every step. I have a daughter and I still don't love going to the ob/gyn even though it seems I should be a little more used to it. By the end of the pregnancy, you won't be so nervous. There isn't any pain, maybe a little discomfort when the put the speculum in, the worst part is your nerves. You can bring your fiance in with you (he did get you pregnant) if you think it will help. Good luck!

They do the pelvic exam which is just a little uncomfy, but if the doctor is good they make sure you're comfortable while doing it. My OB is quick when it comes to pelvic exams so I don't sit there for a long time with my legs wide open lol. They check your cervix and feel your belly. They also might do some blood tests and STD tests, depending on your doctor. They'll give you a prescription for prenatal vitamins and ask to see you after a few weeks, it's pretty simple in the beginning, towards the end is when you'll be visiting them more often. If you're uncomfortable, go with a woman, they know what you're going through and have the same privates as you :)

first off, stay calm. it is very weird the first time you go. explain to the doctor you choose that you have never been to an ob/gyn before. some women feel more comfortable with a female doctor, so you might want to search one out. At my first visit with my 2 babies i had a pelvic exam, the doctor puts something called a speculum into your vaginal opening to help them see and to open you up a bit. it is very uncomfortable but not painful. Then the doctor touches you to check different things. They also take a swab (extra extra long q-tip) and take a sample to run tests on, again uncomfortable but not painful. THen the doc has you get dressed and talk about any problems or concerns. After that, my doc has me go to the Lab and get my blood drawn so they can test for STD's and all. That's about it. i hope it helps. It's really important for you to not put off prenatal care. Even though it's odd, and uncomfortable and not pleasant, you need to do it just to be safe. Congrat's on the baby, and i hope all goes well.

well initially they will do a pap smear they and then you will have blood draws since you are pregnant which by the way you are gonna have to get over the private things they don't stare or make a big deal about it but you are gonna have a baby and you will never be self conscious again then you will probably have a vaginal ultrasound to determine due date and what not then you will have days where you go and they measure your belly and listen to the heart beat then toward the end he will probably check your cervix which is done using 2 fingers and that kinda hurts alittle bit alot of pressure but it will all be okay delivery there is alot of nurses and what not that come check you cervix and it is don't the same way so just a heads up! i hope this helps i was 18 when i was pregnant with my first so i know the feeling i was the same as you but you get over it pretty quick but if you don't like your doctor and or you feel uncomfortable with him or her then you need to change right now before you get to far into your pregnancy
i hope this helps good luck and congrats!

You will have to have an internal exam which isn't really painful, just a little uncomfortable. You can have your fiance in with you to hold your hand if you want and the doctor will probably have a nurse (to keep lawsuits at bay). They will do a pap smear and may do a quick check of your rectum. He / she may do a breast exam as well. You will probably have to pee in a cup for a urinalysis as well.
Depending on how far along you are, you may have an ultrasound (not painful, you will have to raise your shirt for it) or the doctor may listen for the baby's heartbeat with a Doppler (little hand held device--not painful at all).
This will all be in your first visit. At later appointments they usually listen for the baby's heartbeat, check your weight, blood pressure and urine (for protein in it). You might have an ultrasound as well, but not at every appointment. If everything is going well this will probably be all that happens at most of your appointments.
Congratulations and good luck!

in case you speed and pass crimson lighting fixtures fixtures and finally end up pulled over the cop will end escorting you to the well-being center. have confidence me we are residing 50 miles faraway from a well-being center and that i replace into screaming a cussing and we've been going a hundred mph have been given pulled over defined to the cop in a no longer so effective style i replace into in preterm exertions and that i mandatory to get to a well-being center except he replace into an OB that knew the thank you to do an emergency C~section. ( i replace into pregnant with twins lost between the toddlers at 29 weeks and went into exertions at 33 weeks had basically seen the expert and knew the two toddlers have been nevertheless transverse.) The cop escorted us to the well-being center i assume to insure that we weren't mendacity and instructed us next time we could constantly leave in the previous and did no longer provide us a value tag. luckily. As for the OB/GYN providing you with a due date it somewhat is a time in the previous your water is assume to interrupt it relatively is a sparkling one to me, using fact anybody I even have ever talked to the OB instructed them their EDD to be from the date of their final common era. So the sole way an OB knows while your water will ruin is that in case you have a scheduled C~section or are being brought about.

it may be embarassing to you to have a doctor look down there, but get used to it.... they will be seeing a lot of that part of your body. for me, they don't check down there when i go to my appointment unless i've been complaining of weird pains or something or if i've been sick. it doesn't hurt at all. most of the appointments are spent talking with your doctor about questions and they feel your belly and listen to the heartbeat and stuff like that. make sure you find a doctor you are comfortable with. if they do an internal exam as them to explain to you what they are doing.
