Two, four, or hundreds -- depending on how you define things.

In the US, there are patent attorneys and attorneys at law. Two different types of practice, two different bars.

In England and some other countries, there are barristers and solicitors. Barristers argue before the court, solicitors advise and interpret the law.

A different way to split it up is by type of practice -- there are litigators (people who handle trial cases), transactional attorneys (people who handle general paperwork, like taxes, wills, real estate, etc), corporate attorneys (people who handle corporate transactions) and legislative attorneys or judges (people whose job is to write or interpret the law).

Or, you can organize attorneys by field of specialty -- criminal defense, family law, contracts, intellectual property, environmental, constitutional issues -- but there are dozens if not hundreds of specialities.

There are many. I have attached a link below of a search engine full of attorneys. You can search all kind. Just put in a search phrase and I'm sure you will find many. Criminal, personal injury, real estate as the list goes on. There are even separate practices within each practice. Take a look at the sites and you will get an idea of how many there really are........Happy searching.
