Why dont people understand that one person cant control another?? There is this man who keeps calling me at work, and I have been told to tell him to stop calling me there, or I am in danger of being fired. And that is exactly what I told him when he called again. He apologized and agreed to stop. He hasnt called since. Today, the phone rang and my boss picked up and who ever it was hung up on her. She assumed it was him (even though whoever it was never said a word, they only hung up) and told me that if he calls here again, the owner will be notified and I will lose my job. This makes me mad because anyone could just call up and hang up and I could get fired over it.
For the record, they dont like him because they think he is a troublemaker and they dont want me to associate with him. Please advise!!

Actually, we are allowed to use the internet. My job performance is not in question here, they are happy with the way I perform. They are not happy with this man that keeps calling. I have absolutely NO control over what others choose to do, I can only relate to them my wishes and hope they adhere. We cant call the authorities over mere suspicion. No one has proof he even called, the number is blocked. Furthermore, if it was anyone else to call for me, they would not mind in the least. Not that I have ever recieved personal phone calls on the job, this would be the first time that has ever been an issue.
They have a personal problem with him, and they are overprotective of me. I appreciate that they care, but it is my personal business. I have explained that keeping my job is of high importance to me, but that I cannot control the actions of others. She basically told me that I have to make him understand. She has no idea if it was even him or not.

Added to that is that it is my job to answer the phones, among other things, so I cant refuse to answer the phone, and neither can they tell me not to answer the phone any longer because that is a major part of my day.
Someone here said that he was a stalker, what would make you say that?

I can tell that you really want to keep your job so your should stress that to your boss. Tell her that you want to change your work number just to make sure he doesn't call you any more. Have her take your phone away if the situation is that serious, unless you really need your phone. Then let every thing cool down and get your phone back. Or just tell the guy to really quit calling because you will lose your job. Don't be mean about it because he may find it humorous, since he's a trouble maker, and just call your phone to see what will happen. Hope this helps!

You need to explain to your boss that you are not responcible forthat person and that she should tell him the next time he calls, that if he calls again , she will contact the Authorities.

Then you should start looking for a different job-- I wouldn't work for people like that--

It sounds like you need a new job anyway, seriously. Life is too short to put up with crappy bosses and stalkers.
