Do you think that people choose to not work and sit around all day and collect welfare? Aslo, do you think that food stamps are used to buy beer and drugs? Do you believe that women have multiple children and then all of those children go on welfare? Do you think that welfare is free or a loan? And lastly, for how long can you collect? Just trying to figure out the amount of actual knowledge people have on the subject

david, I gave you a thumbs up for categorically answering, but your information is not entirely correct, and a little dated. For example, a woman who goes on welfare is NOT covered for any additional children she has on welfare, BOTH parents are required to pay it back, and they will take half of your check until it is paid back. % years is the cap, it is NON consecutive, and shows that someone cannot just live for years and years on welfare.

sorry, 5 years is the cap...

1) No, they don't.

2) No. My mother was entitled to it when she became disabled, but she chose instead to start a sewing business.

3) I'm sure some people that do, but not everyone.

4) No. Most people do not have large families if they are incapable of supporting them.... MOST, not all unfortunately.

5) It's a loan,... there's no such thing as a free ride.

6) 5 years max.

Do you think that anyone without a job gets welfare? - No. Many jobless people do not qualify for welfare.

Do you think that people choose to not work and sit around all day and collect welfare? - I think SOME people choose to not work and sit around all day and collect welfare. I have met several of them. They are not my friends.

Also, do you think that food stamps are used to buy beer and drugs? - Normally not directly. Most drug dealers don't take food stamps. However, people still find a way to trade food stamp money for cash which can then be used to buy anything. Some recipients will choose to buy drugs, alcohol and other items that food stamps cannot be used for directly.

Do you believe that women have multiple children and then all of those children go on welfare? - As before, in some cases yes. There are many documented cases of woman having additional children while on welfare for the purpose of increasing their welfare benefit. Additionally, the children of welfare recipients are more likely to end up on welfare. Sorry, I don't have the exact numbers handy at the moment.

Do you think that welfare is free or a loan? - A little of both. It is free to the recipient. The non-custodial parent can be ordered to reimburse the state for the welfare payments. This amount is not always the full amount of the payments.

And lastly, for how long can you collect? - I have heard of a push to place a 5 year cap on benefits, I'm not sure if this has taken effect.

In my state welfare has to be paid back, but it usually ends up coming out of your probate because most of the people are on it until they die. Food stamps don't by beer and drugs here, has to be grocery items (our state has debit cards). Just a note though, our food stamp recipients are blessed enough that Wal-Mart, who now accepts the food stamp debit cards, is kind enough to classify Doritos, Snickers bars, and Pepsi as grocery items. That's all they buy with them.

Ask the oil industry and huge corporations that get welfare in the form of $280 billion a year subsidies from your president Bush.

Some of the following are from the Clinton administration, however under Bush much of the corporate welfare being doled out has risen dramatically.
