We live in a motel and I am thinking about getting a co sleeper for our baby. Which ones are the best? We obviously don't have a lot of room so I don't want a huge crib - But I want something safe, preferably the co sleeper that is attached to the side of the bed. Are there any that I can use for up to a year - we are saving a lot of money and we are going to move back to my home someday. Does anybody have any advice or experience that can help me out?

We found a pack-and-play with bassinette attachment was about right, and then we switched to a regular crib pushed against the wall with our bed pushed against it and a tightly rolled blanket filling the crack between the mattresses so it wasn't a suffocation hazard.

When mine were little we had a swing with a bassinet attachment. It didn't take up much space, but they usually out grew it in about 3 months. Then we used a portable crib with my youngest for over a year. I put a padded quilt under the sheet to make it softer. There are smaller cribs and port-a-cribs that you can push against the bed. We also co-slept with our babies sometimes. They are now 7, 5, and 3 and have no problems sleeping in their own beds now.
Personally I would go with a port-a-crib, it's compact and when you do move it wont take up a lot of room. You can get one with a bassinet and changing table attachment. I had one of those and it worked great! Everything, including the baby can be stored in one spot.

I am not sure about co-sleepers, but they make the playpens that have the attachment on top for when they are very little and then you remove it for when they are older, they could hold a baby up to a year. They may be a bit cheaper too. You can just put them right beside the bed, it works great.
We had a Graco Pack N Play.

I have both the arms reach co-sleeper and a pack and play bassinet and for us the arms-reach is the only one that we can use because we have a tall bed they make leg extensions for them so they are the same height. Also the side rail comes down so you don't have to reach over the side. I am not sure what the weight limit is but I have 10 lb twins and they use it just fine.

We have an evenflo pack and play purchased at walmart. Its got the bassinet attachment that is just the right height to be able to reach the baby while still in bed. Plus it doubles as a playpen that is portable when she gets older.

We use a crib and have the side rail down and pushed right against our bed but all my research says that Arms Reach makes the best co-sleepers.

You could also try to Graco Pack and Play models. They are playpens that convert to mini bassinets.

We just bought a bedrail and slept with our infants...I kept the covers away from her and it was very easy and nursing was easier too. Do an internet search on "co-sleeping" and you will be surprised at the number of people that do it. and in most other countries they would never think of putting a tiny baby alone and away from it's mother!

I'm not sure about devices for co-sleeping because I just had her sleep with me. See she had GERD issues and keeping her upright for 20 min at 2am was not in the cards for this already sleepy mommy. With lots of pillows and my husband giving us plentyof room, we made it through with mom and baby sleeping better than I could have imagined! -good luck
