For ur info -
RegistryCleanerXP is a rogue cleanup program that claims to clean your Windows Registry in your PC. RegistryCleanerXP is designed to identify and fix registry errors, but it is often installed through a Trojan or web security holes. Once it is installed, RegistryCleanerXP launches on Windows startup and popups exaggerated security alerts to try and scare you into buying the full version of the program.
Removal Instructions -
The most common spyware removal tactic is to uninstall RegistryCleanerXP by using the "Add/Remove Programs" utility. However, as there may still be hidden RegistryCleanerXP files, it's possible that RegistryCleanerXP will reappear after reboot. For better removal results and no manual effort, use a good anti-spyware program to help you find and remove RegistryCleanerXP.

You have spyware/adware.
These are the programs that you do not want to be without while on the Internet:
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spyware Blaster
Super Anti-Spyware
These are all free downloads (Google them)
Free virus scans:
AVG
Avast
Spybot and Super Anti-Spyware are scanners. Spyware Blaster runs in the background as a shield and is especially good for Active X attacks.
Download the Super Anti-Spyware - update it - run a complete system scan.
If you are unsuccessful in removing this pest - turn off System Restore, boot into safe mode - run the scan again.

download spybot and firefox
firefox is a different web browser that is more secure and stops popups. Ever since I've started using it, I've not been hit by these bothersome malwares
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
and fasterfox after you install FireFox to help speed things up a bit
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1269
spybot removes addware, viri, and spyware
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
download it, install it and update it.
run it, scan, then fix, then allow to restart on reboot. It all takes a bit of time.
good luck
hmmm are the popups just grey windows or or they webpages?
grey windows are a different story

You could download a pop up blocker from yahoo or just update your windows xp from windowsupdate.com; the latest explorer package has a popup blocker, although I would use yahoo's. Just download at http://toolbar.yahoo.com/.
