Here are the names of three people you've never heard of, but who were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1998:

Robert Furchgott of the State University of New York in Brooklyn;
Ferid Murad of the University of Texas Medical School in Houston; and
Louis Ignarro of the University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine

They found out what relaxes blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure. It is nitric oxide, which you get from arginine. I've educated several physicians about this...it seems their drug reps didn't tell 'em about it. Go figure.

Your doctor is most likely in the same boat.

Arginine is an inexpensive amino acid. Taken on an empty stomach, it can lower blood pressure. Typically 4-6 grams are needed for a couple few months, but the amount needed decreases greatly as time passes.

My blood pressure is 110/65. I take 1 gram of arginine every few days.

Exercise and diet will help more than anything. The medicine is a good thing until you can work to get the HBP down more on your own. A daily exercise program even for 30 minutes will help and limiting salts and fatty foods will as well. It would be interesting to know if you also have a cholestol problem as well.

stop eating cheese. I have HBP and was told cheese will increase your blood pressure by a dietician. Walking also
helps (30 min/day) but you should really talk to your doctor
about lifestyle changes that will help

Diet and exercise are key. Also, you should watch salt/sodium intake, work on better stress management, and if you are overweight, take that into account as well.
