I'm a huge fan of Kazmir and desperately want to see him pitch for a better ball club. However, I can't find anything about how long he has left on his contract.

Not a question of contract .... more a question of service time. His contract is basically year to year at this point ... and he will be eligible for arbitration from 2008-2010. But he will not be a free agent until after the 2010 season (players must have 6 full years of major league service before they can file for free agency). I know it's not what you would have liked to have heard ...but, it's what it is.

I would also respectfully disagree with the previous poster's calculation of service time. I know little of the authenticity of the site he referenced, but I do know that Kazmir had 2+ full seasons of ML service time going INTO the 2007 season - which would make this year three ... and 2010 year 6.

Kazmir's current contract isn't very relevant; entering 2007, he had two years, 42 days of major league service, so he won't be able to declare free agency until after the 2011 season (the Rays could release him, of course).

Either bide your time, or hope that the Rays put a better team around him.

Edit: hmm, yeah, I botched that simple bit o' math. He can first go free agent after 2010.
