One of the problems is many don't believe there are poor and hungry in the US. And if a person is poor and hungry it must be their fault. Silly I know but true. I can say I live in a community where the citizens take care of this through non-profits.

Most of the poor and hungry in America were poor and hungry somewhere else a decade ago.
When will Libs realize that a free economy is not a zero sum game in which there is X amount of wealth and some people's "filling their pockets with it" comes at someone else's expense? A free economy creates wealth. If someone doesn't have sufficient wealth, you want an economy to make more of it.
Over the past 10 years most people have become far better off than they were. Unemployment is extremely low.
YES in a population of 300 million and growing there will be some home grown poverty, always, but it will in a free economy get down to a statistically insignificant level.
What you don't realize is that the tax burden initially put in place to help 2 jobless folks creates 10 more jobless folks. It's indirect but it's definite - you remove capital from the private economy where it otherwise (except the small part of it that Japanese housewives hide under the futon) would be reinvested, thereby creating jobs.
Who is voting thumbs down on this? That's how it works.
My god dealing with Libs is like dealing with children, trying to explain to a 4 year old why a law declaring that all people will live to 100 wouldn't bring their grandmother back.

The poor and hungry isn't just a goverment issue, that is something each and every one of us have a responsibility to. The poorest in our country has more than those in some other countries so we need to take care of the poor everywhere, poverty doesn't have boundries. We could eliminate a lot of the poor in this country by getting rid of welfare except for the neediest and get the able bodied people working!! Why we tolorate this I don't know!

If you can identify poor and hungry, get them help. We have endless social services run by all levels of government. We have charities.
The US government calls a family of four making $36,000 a year "poor."
In North Korea the annual income is about $350. In Cuba, half of the people do not work. Those who do, get about $300 per year.

I don't feel sorry for the poor in the US because there is opportunity for anyone willing and competent enough to work.
We give PLENTY of freebies to the growing number of deadbeats being spawned every year in this country, thanks to our hard earned tax dollars.
Consider this, if the US gov. (Joe Taxpayer), handed every person living under the poverty line $10,000, I bet most of the recipients would blow it on useless crap and be right back in the same boat within months.
You can't help those who can't help themselves
