Step one:Legalize It
Step two: Regulate it as you would any business
This of course leads to the steps that take care of themselves by legalizing it,like freeing up space in our courts to deal with actual crimes, and saving millions currently wasted on law enforcement efforts to stop prostitution, and collecting tax money on incomes of working girls thus increasing our tax base a little. It's a win, win, win.

There would be benefits, for sure.
My chief concern is that making it legal would have the effect of coercing some into the profession. If it's a legal job, then the rationale for not asking people to take it as a condition for receiving unemployment, "workfare" or student aid payments is greatly reduced. And what if a mother or father refused to pay for a child's college education, saying "she (or he) could earn it themselves"?
So I think the law against it has some value as society's expression of the severely low opinion it has of this conduct.
Yes, one could merely make one exception to the financial programs I mentioned, but again why? Would there be other exceptions?
I guess being a stripper is legal but carries some of the same moral stigma.
Maybe the problem is the stigma, rather than the legality.
And a parent who won't help a child is morally reprehensible to me no mater what the law is.
I don't have the answer. I know that disabled people could benefit from legalized prostitution, because it is harder for some of them to get sex. I am NOT knocking anyone (least of all the disabled), but I have seen this phenomenon.
But I can't say there is no downside whatsoever.
Interesting question!

How will we benefit? Honestly, they wont pay taxes, they will cower away from attempts to have them tested for STD's because lets face it, most already have them or have had them. The people that frequent prostitutes lack the social skills to meet, properly introduce themselves, and take on a normal relationship that leads up to sex. whether it takes a year or 30 minutes. I for one do not want to assist these people with becoming more introverted. Chances are people are going to use Prostitutes for the discretion that they provide, because lets face it a majority of John's are married, in relationships, or too immature to understand the risks and responsibilities involved in this exchange. So no, Wives, Children, even the john's and prostitutes won't benefit...... so I ask you....WHO DOES?

Imagine if you made it legal: women (or men) could practice it in safety. You could tax it and finance our deficit. It could ease frustration for those that cannot get laid. I don't see any detriments in doing this, no one is hurt and everyone can profit. I realize it's not the most respectable career, but it is one of the oldest professions. Historically, prostitution has been quite common and accepted in many places. It's never going to go away, no matter how despicable the practice is.

I am against prostitution and women using their body for money! I never ever agreed with the concept...
but the fact is that there are people prostituting no matter what, and legalizing it is the best way to protect the safety for these people, and to make sure that they comply with safety standards so that we prevent the spread of STDs such as AIDS.
you can see this in Holland, where prostitutes have to follow regulations such as using condoms, and have assigned working areas, to make sure they don't get killed or beaten by sick men, which happens every day in most countries.

While it sounds like a good idea to legalize prostitution, it will never happen as our whores in Washington hate the idea of direct competition.

No one benefits from prostitution except the 10 seconds you get your jollies off. And you have to pay for it? HAH!

Make it legal - it's one of those holdover laws from when the tighty righty religious morons were still in charge. While we're at it we should abolish all the no liquor sales on Sundays nonsense too.

Never really understood how it can be illegal to sell something that you can give away for free.
Thank a conservative for legislating majority and then follow senator Vitters fine example.

Actually, I think it should be. We should have learned in the 1920s that prohibition doesn't work. If anything, I think it should be legalized and regulated.
