Yes, children should be given freedom by parents, but upto a certain extent only. The purpose of giving them freedom is that they shouldnt become dependent on parents on each and everything. After all they have to lead independent lives one day or the other, and training them to become independent should begin right from the childhood days. So freedom should be necessarily given to children but upto only such an extent where that freedom can help children to become more independent. The purpose is to make them more independent in life, and without giving freedom they cannot learn things on their own. We must also give them freedom to commit mistakes, because they can learn through mistakes; they should be able to distinguish between right and wrong without being told what is right and what is wrong; there should be no spoon-feeding, but allow them to learn things on their own. So purpose of allowing freedom to children is to allow children to learn things on their own, through which they can develop their own sense of understanding and clarity without being coloured by other people's ideas and thoughts. So freedom has a great value, and its value depends on how much a child can learn through freedom so that it can help him to lead a more independent living through insight and wisdom.

A point in favour of giving children freedom would be so they could grow and develop independent thinking skills by making their own mistakes/ discovering their own successes. I can't think of anything more positive than that.
You have got the harder side of the debate by miles, good luck. An argument for limited freedom would be more do-able, and unlimited freedom a disaster - not to mention criminal.

Freedom seems a little vague. A kid should be brought up so that they can learn from their mistakes in order to be an independent person, but there's always limits. Kids still need guidance and protection. Do you have a specific statement you're debating? If you do, you might want to specify like...how much more freedom should be given.

Excess of everything leads to destruction.
There should be limitations in everything.
And hence is the case regarding to give freedom to children by parents. Freedom should be given but up to extent.. means limitations should be there.
i am talking about the mid way...not the 2 extreme points.
Prepare your debate while taking this very important point in your mind.
Good Luck

Parents shud give freedom to their children but shud have an eye on their children.Fredom shud not be in excess because it will lead the children to follow the wrong way as they(chi..)will think that parents are do not know about them. I think now u can expand it?

Well, sometimes a child might be more likely to do the right thing because a child will be given the choice instead of being forced to do so by their parents. When a parent demands their kid to do something they are less likely to want to!
