do you have an idea of the average salaries there?

No use to know the average salary, you need to know what you in particular can earn.

To find that see if you qualify for a work permit and see all the sites that offer jobs.

Standard of living is pretty good, I always have a little money at the end of the month to send to my savings account, and so do most people I know.
But the average amount people earn is a no use.
You need to know the cost of living, the average family situation and how often both partners work (often, even when the children are young,) and so on.

And an other important factor is how people feel about living here, how free they feel.
We seem to have laws about everything.
And on average it seems that what is not forbidden is compulsory, and what is not compulsory is forbidden.
Many laws are not kept, or only to a certain extend, the laws about soft drugs are the best known in that respect, but the laws are still there.

Coming from an American's perspective living here since Dec. '04, I find it extremely inconvenient. Business hours are ridiculously short and hardly anything is open on Sundays. Being from the states, I'm used to 24 hr/7 days a week everything and you just won't find that here, at least not where I live. As my husband is paid in US dollars, the exchange rate is killing us but that's obviously no the dutchies fault.

On a positive note, it's beautiful here, safer in my opinion and the traveling has been fantastic.
