I don't believe it. I believe YOU have the impact of whether or not you will be overweight--or not. You're the only one who's in control of the fork! Use it WISELY!! However, I do feel that some may get it twisted--in the sense that other people may influence your behavior, ie: going out with people that are dining out frequently, having parties where there's greasy food/junk food, and fattening alcohol...Being around these types of food-oriented people, can influence your behavior... ya know?? It's kinda like if you're a recovering smoker, and you hang out w/another smoker...You're more likely to pick the bad habit up again....Same goes true for eating...FOOD can be a serious addiction...And you can't just cut it out--It'll ALWAYS be there...You just have to make sure, you are mindful of what you eat each day! It takes effort, that's for sure!!!

I think people need to stop blamming McDonalds, Burger King, Mom, your spouse and your best friends. It's your mouth and it's your body. I am overweight and It's noones fault by my own. I'm not going to sue McDonalds or blame my family. I am an Adult and I can chose what I do or don't want to eat and I know what the results will be based on my choices.
The only exception to this might be a kid who has a parent feeding them unhealthy food as a kid won't have the choices an adult does.
People really need to start using common sense again and blame themselves for their lives instead of trying to blame everyone and everything else.

of course they can. If you have friends that Just like to eat and not do physical activities you are more likely to go and eat with them instead of play tennis or jog or whatever. Anyone that is around you is an influence - that doesn't mean you have to get rid of people in your life like that, you just have to balance it out with some activity.

I think that taking in more calories than you expend makes you fat. To be sure, there is a genetic component, but the rest of it is bunk. How about, people who have similar habits like to spend time together. Doesn't that make more sense?

Friends cannot make you obese. Friends can make food choices for themselves but that does not mean you have to follow. You choose what you eat, there are always options if you are eating with friends.

Not unless they're force feeding you fattening foods, in which case you need new friends and relatives.

As far as their reasoning goes...I suppose...If you are always hanging around overweight people, then your idea of a "normal" weight is shifted...If you are around people that are very health conscious, then you would be more apt to watching your weight..
