I think so, and I think we should all sit our kids down to listen to his interviews on the subject.

Like McGwire, Schilling didn't snitch to Congress because it would not do baseball any good - just drag it through the mud. The home run race of '98 was what brought baseball back after the downfall of the strike. No one said anything about Sammy's corked bats or steroids then because baseball kinda needed that H.R. race.
Anyone that uses that tired arguement about Bonds not failing a frug test is too stupid to be discussing sports! HGH is not detectable, and BONDS already admitted using 'clear' anyway. He just said he thought it was flax seed oil Ha Ha! Never heard of flax seed oil making you blow up like a baloon and doubling your stats. after 35!

Koala - the top expert on steroids said yesterday they they do not only make you bigger and stronger, but also help with hand-eye by putting you in 'the zone'. Where have you been? Pitchers reign supreme over hitters anyways - fool!

If he is such a hero, why didn't he say anything when he went to the Congress meeting? He was there because he is so outspoken against it but when he was sitting in the presence of guys he accused of taking steroids, all of the things he had to say went away. i would have a lot more respect for him if he had taken that chance that baseball and the government offered to him instead of being essentially a coward.

P.S. Why is he worrying about it? He has had great success in baseball with multiple 20 win seasons.

Absolutely not! He's just bitter that he's not a slugger with all the media attention, but a washed up pitcher that needed to gain the nation's pity by putting fake blood on a sock. Open wounds with stitches or staples would not allow you to pitch a game..... Totally drama queen and a fake.....

Pitchers and sluggers do not gain unfair advantages on field. It's just a myth because steroids will not help you hit HR's or pitch no-hitters. Muscles get too tight to swing bats or pitch, vision gets limited to see anything clear and personalities will rage on and these people can't function properly, let alone play baseball.....

I hope he retires soon and shuts up with the nonsense.

Yup... I love Schilling for saying this (and for 2004 :D) Somebody had to say it and I'm glad it was him. I feel bad for the guy...hes worked hard...without cheating...his whole life for the success he's had and people like Bonds get juiced up and barely have to work and have even greater success. And I think it is important for all people including kid to know that there are good baseball players that don't cheat (more likeable ones too)

I can't agree with hero status simply because he chose so late in his career to speak out about it. To me a hero for this cause would be a younger player who hasn't established his self yet who see's it going on and blows the whistle because he wants to game to be pure and for the game to have an even playing feild. Give me someone with alot to lose who stands up for whats right and I'll call him a hero.
Now dont get me wrong I hope that Schilling speaking out now will motivate one of these younger guys to do just that and holler FOUL when someone is seen or known to break the rules.

I think its good for him to say what he said but I think hero is a bit far off. The risks of steroid use far out weigh the advantages. The thruth is, he just said what everyone should already know. To respect him as a role model is one thing but if we want to idolize him for this then why not Jose Canseco also for being so upfront with his use and other players use. Without Jose then this probably would have been swept under the rug for another 5 years. This is a rough time for baseball and I just can't wait to see the big steroid freaks all retire.

He's not a hero. He's just using the situation to come out as the bigger man who'll stand up against it. I'm not fooled. Too bad he couldn't be so heroic in the past and stood up against it during the home run chase of 98 or earlier. I think it's easy to take a stand against steroids now. Where was this anger earlier in his career? Why'd he wait until it became a hot topic to take such a "heroic" stand? Gimme a break.

No, because Bonds never failed a drug test and Schilling is just trying to get people to like him because he was voted one of the most disliked athletes a few years ago.

I don't think so.

He is merely commenting on it, what would have made him a hero is when he witnessed it, he brought it to the public/media's attention instead of doing what ever other player did and say nothing.

If it was going on in every clubhouse, he would have seen signs or evidence in everyone of his clubhouses.

Simply put, if you don't want to get caught doing something wrong, don't do things that are wrong.

No. He was terrible before Congress and blamed it all on Jose Canseco. Now he is bitching and moaning about Bonds after being an a**hole about Bonds a few months ago.

Schilling is done as a pitcher and deserves to have his butt kicked.

not really hes kind of a big mouth who has an answer for everything. if you want sports heros for your kids, go to hank aaron, jackie robinson, cal ripken jr, johnny bench, guys like that. cal ripken jr is being inducted into cooperstown this weekend, it s a good time to introduce your kids to him. modern day athletes are not role models, they have too many problems and too much money.
