A humidifier will solve your problem. You can buy them at Target. From my experience, the cheap ones work just as well as expensive ones BUT make sure you buy the vaporizing kind NOT the kind that's just a big fan and a tub of water.

I've purchased MANY humidifiers in a variety of price ranges and believe it or not these inexpensive animal shaped ones from Target work the best, last the longest and cost the least. Personally I like the Pengiun:

Static electricity in the home is usually caused by a lack of humidity. Nylon carpets also increase it. Shuffling your feet (in stockings) across a wood or nylon carpeted floor are two of the most common causes.

Static buildup does better in dry air. I suppose you are air conditioning which takes humidity out of the air? There are anti static sprays for carpets and such which might help. It drives me nuts too and I'm an electrician. :)

With more moisture in the air the static dissapates slowly rather than rapidly like rhen you touch a piece of metal or a light switch.
