I made a bad joke about mother-in-law's dog and didn't apologise.So she calls my husband's 41yr old uncle (that lives with and abuses his 69yr old mom)and told him"She's gone! I want him out of there!".He called here telling my husband what she said and that he needs to come by so they (his family) can have a tallk with him.What does this sound like to you?(I say cult behavior...)

I've called the cops on the uncle before after witnessing him bodyslam her and step on her neck.She(69yr old mom)bailed him out of jail and the two of them have hated me ever since.

Call adult protective services and report this abuse. Id watch my back, Make a police report so the incident will be documented. There will be more trouble. The mother is surely afraid of her a__hole son. No matter how bad the joke, you dont deserve this and yes this is a really weird family. If your husband goes to discuss this, have him take a small tape recorder. Not that you want to go to her house, but it is not right you dont get to defend yourself

1. You and your husband need couples counseling.
2. You and your husband need to be a lot less involved in the drama of his family.
3. You NEED to call elder care authorities and report the abuse. Are you seriously ignoring your responsibilities in this area to be involved in this he said/she said nonsense? That is ridiculous.
4. You need to stop pointing fingers at everyone else. According to your recount, you weren't the only one who did something wrong, but your no angel!!!! Recognize and take ownership over YOUR misbehavior and remedy it. (Meaning, apologize, and then don't do it again.)

It sounds like a family that has issues...what family doesn't??
I am not sure it is a cult though....
What does your husband say? Does he care what his mother says? Is he going to go talk to them and stick up for you? He should! Are you constantly stirring up trouble between his family?
Why insult a dog?
You can't tell me that one isolated incident made your MIL want your husband to leave you. There has to be more history to this than that!!

It sounds like your husband has a crazy family and he needs to stand up for you. If you feel you should apologize, do that first and then have your husband tell his mom to back down, you love each other and all you did was make a joke. She needs to lighten up. Sounds like she doesn't like you for other reasons, but with a woman like that she probably wouldn't like anyone her son loves. She's selfish and immature and your husband needs to be there for YOU now, not her!
