In the yard, you might want professional help. There are certain herbs that repel bugs though, such as tansy and fennel. And you could try giving the dog brewer's yeast to make him less tasty to the fleas.

Good luck!

If your dogs have fleas, then they are not just outside. They are most likely inside your house now too! A year ago I had the same problem. But it got so bad by the time we figured it out that we could actually see them in the carpet if we looked. You will need to get a special shampoo for your carpet and any cloth furniture that may have been in contact with your dogs. Clean any area that the dogs have been in and any adjacent rooms too.

Also, my vet suggested this aerosal can that had flea killer in it. They sold it right there at the vet's office. You just spray it on the carpet, let it soak in for 1/2 hr, and then vacuum it up. And KEEP THE DOGS OUT for a few hrs. It worked VERY well.

But for as to keep the fleas out of the yard, I do not know. I would say just to keep the grass regularly cut and keep any flowers and shrubs from getting out of hand. Most small insects like the thick grassy areas like as in a meadow. Other than that, maybe try a natural pesticide or something. I've heard soapy water keeps certain bugs off of flowers, so maybe that would work every now and then on the lawn, but I'm not entirely sure how true that may be. And as always use the preventative medicine for your dogs like advantage.

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.
