You will most likely need to undergo a pap smear and full gynecological exam; however a REGULAR doctor can perform this exam (you do NOT need to see a gynecologist unless you have specific issues that need to be addressed).

It is fine to skip periods with the pill, as long as the pill is designed for this practice. Seasonale is the only pill that is currently FDA approved for this practice, unless you want to consider using a mini-pill (progesterone-only), which has its own needs and issues and typically prescribed for nursing mothers and endometriosis patients. There is another pill that is being test-marketed right now however.

You should discuss all your options with your doctor.

Honestly, I dont think its healthy at all. We were "made to bleed" a few times a month. If we screw that up too many times we might get blood clots, or other nasty things. I was told by my doc. I could skip my period as often as I wanted when I first when on my pills when I was 15 (now 21) but I have only skipped 2 times in those years. That was b.c. I was on vacation, the next time I had my period I had really bad cramps-I wouldn't suggest doing it all the time if u do want to skip periods. I truely believe someday they will figure it out that its NOT healthy and women will get other medical problems from doing it.

Good luck :o)

IMO its not really healthy to do it all the time, and even if you do try to skip periods by skipping the placebo pack you could still get a period, and it may take some time for your cycle to get back on track with the pills once you stop skipping the placebos.

I tried it once, and never again will I. I spotted at times that I shouldn't have and it took forever for me to get back on track.

You should talk to your doctor. There are pills that let you have 4 periods a year (Seasonale) and no periods a year (Lybrel).

I take Loestrin 24 and I like it because I only get my period for like an hour and its only spotting. Literally 1 tampon per month. Plus it lets you know you aren't pregnant.

You should definitely think about seeing a OB/GYN because they are specialized in this field and can spot problems farther in advance. In addition, you NEED to make sure you get your annual PAP smear done. Some regular doctors don't do this and it's VERY VERY important. Trust me! One time I had one done and it came back with results showing early signs of cervical cancer. They got it in time so I didn't have to get a hysterectomy, but if I slacked and didn't get my PAP that year, I could be in real trouble. So please take care of yourself. :)

You can go to either to get a prescription. I go to my normal doctor cause i'm more comfortable with him.
My doctor has recommended to me to do this in 3month cycles. E.G take one pack, (3weeks) then throw the period pills away, take the second pack (3 weeks) then throw away the period pills, take the third pack fully (all 4 weeks). Remember this advice is from my doctor.

Yes, it is healthy according to research. Not all women naturally have periods every month.

You can get it from your Gyn as well as your regular doctor. Ask them.

yeh you can do it for as long as you like but its healthier not to leave it for longer than 6 months because your body needs a clean out to avoid infection and some types of cancer.

My sister did that and she had an unplanned pregnancy, I don't know for sure if that is what caused it, but I can't imagine it to be healthy!
