After I open a pattern and use it, I can never make all the parts fit back in the envelope. I want to keep the pattern all together, neat and easy to find. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I use quart sized ziploc bags to store the patterns. Since I like to mix and match my patterns, if there is more than one item (pants and shirts) in the same package, I put them into separate bags and label them with the pattern number and what it is. (4097 capri w/pocket) Then I keep the bags in shoe boxes, maybe 3 or 4 patterns to a box with the pattern numbers written on the outside. I keep the pattern envelopes in another box with the instructions inside. I look through the pattern envelopes for the pattern that I want, then go to the shoe box with that number and retrieve the specific pattern. Kind of like the stores do it with the catalogs and the drawers of patterns.

Then you can photocopy the pattern envelope front and keep a binder in style order, keeping the patterns in number order. It's easiest to store the patterns in a file cabinet if you go with this method. It'll also be cheaper than ziplocks...

Put them in large ziplock bags. Place the original pattern envelope facing out so you can see it. You can include swatches of fabric that you used for this pattern. Also, you can keep notes or any information pertaining to the pattern all in one place.

I used zip lock bags for mine, and stored them in a filing cabinet. It was easy to store them and locate them for later use.
