Moving there from where??? I haven't lived there, but I lived in Maine and have been to Portsmouth a bunch of times...It's fun in the summer but it can get pretty cold and dreary in the winter time. It's not too expensive..well, unless you are buying a house..NH has high property taxes since they don't tax a lot of other things...Portsmouth itself isn't too bad..there are bars and alehouses in the downtown area, which is small but historic...and bonus, it's not far from Boston.

I live very close to Portsmouth (I live in Hampton). Expensive, not as expensive as Boston. Not as expensive as Maine.

In NH there is no sales tax and no income tax. It's best if you can live and work in NH. If you don't you end up getting killed on taxes. The property tax is the primary source of income.

I think Portsmouth is a great place. Very little to no crime. Close to beaches or mountains. Close to Boston (less than an hour drive), you can get to NYC in less than 4 hours. There are several good-great restaurants. By and large it's a youngish town, lots of young adults hitting the "decks" on summer nights. The bars/restaurants in downtown Portsmouth have waterfront decks along the Piscataqua river. It's a neat little eclectic town.

Does anyone live there?! Like over 20,000 people. They got a police force and a McDonald's and all kinds of stuff like that. Don't worry, you won't be the first person moving in.

Hope you have a well paying job. Very expensive. You can walk the city. Nice place. Like it a lot.
