WIndows XP Media Center has very tight hardware restrictions. If you do not have a supported video, audio, processor, etc for Media Center, it will not install correctly. This is one of the reasons why Microsoft does not sell Media Center to the public. You can only get it preinstalled on a Media Center Ready PC.
Unless you are certain that the PC can handle Media Center, do not install it. You can, however, install regular Windows XP on to the computer.
