Because scoence hasn't given us the technology yet. It would be nice to have robotic arms and legs, but we haven't yet developed a reliable interface between robotics and human nerve endings, to say the very least.

There are people with artificial hearts. There are people with very amazing artificial limbs. There was story about that yesterday. Science is working on being able to replace eyes with cameras so that people with damaged eyes can see again. The idea of a person with artificial biologics is not unbelievable anymore. One day, it might be possible to completely replace all of the person with mechanical parts. I am not sure how we would react to that and I am even less sure on how the brain could be replaced. However, one day, it might be possible.
